General Discussion / Re: Reworking the layout
April 27, 2019, 05:20:21 PM
only problem for continual running - once the train/loco is reversed on the Y , and back on the main line , there is no way to get back on the Y and turn the train around - except reversing through the switch/point  ?

I have the Bachmann EZ command and DC  controller set up , but no reverse loop so cant help .
however it is usually a NO to use a DC loco  on DCC  , but I do it myself with a old loco - the motors are a bit more robust .
Should you use a present day loco it may burn the motor  - whatever you choose try and keep the loco running - if left stationary the motor will surely burn out .

If it's the same as their typical 6-wire plug arrangement it would go like this -

first time decoder installer's ...
note if installing dcc the bottom 2 brass colored tag's must be slipped off - other Wise the decoder will burn out .

Lemme guess...

The infants and primary students you once taught are millennials?

yes your correct 5 to 10 year old children - I am sorry we have differing words meaning the same (trash can = UK dust bin could be used for the set in question  ;D )

A boxcar and a diesel by themselves does not sound like a "set ".

if you have read the above post from plas man to James in FL - now you fall into the same category .
found HO has told you he found a set with loco and box van - that is all you have read - now if you care to read further Found HO gives a full description of the set they have found .

for the resale value of the set , surly been the late husbands it would be worth more in sentimental value ?

Quote20160519 - now this is date of manufacture - read it backwards that should read ...
25th of November 2018 - yes you are right , at least you are paying attention

WTF??  I read that as year 2016, month 05 May day 19

How the hell do you get Nov 25 2018? from that?

well as a retired infant/primary school teacher that teaching always works , if I had given you the answer you would not have worked it out for yourself = ''I do and I under stand'' .

N / Re: Speed of new Thunder Valley N scale set
March 21, 2019, 12:00:04 PM
sorry fmfls can not help with the turn outs as I use track from a well known Japanese manufacture .
try ...
wheels out of gauge
is some kind of junk stuck in the frog
flash (plastic or metal) on a wheel set from manufacture
the hanging down bit on the coupler snagging on the turnout
is the bottom of the truck fully clipped in position (could be lifting the wheels when reach the frog)

the Kato switch's are noted for the blades not meeting flush with the track - causing derail when running on - ok when running opposite . It could be same with Bachmann as you say there is bad reports about them .

I dont know if this may help - on newer or even newer Bachmann loco's or stock - inside the box printed on the card packing you will find a number  some thing like this ... 20160519 - now this is date of manufacture - read it backwards that should read ...
25th of November 2018 - yes you are right , at least you are paying attention  ;D

N / Re: N Scale FRED on the horizon?

I would have thought that the patent was for one item or invention or whatever you want to call it  '
as two scales are mentioned then two patents would be needed ?

if the new loco has knuckle couplers , then Bachmann do a Rapido version that simply fits into the coupler box on the new loco's or car's/coach's . there is usually a packet (2 Rapido's) in new items of rolling stock .
