According to Sountraxx the decoder installed in the Spectrum units is a reduced function set and Fireman Fred is one of the functions not available.  So for those of you that are trying to get this function to work, you can stop trying it is not there.

Yep' thats what i read too....no fireman fred ,sorry guys.
GN.2-6-8-0,
Where did you read it?

If i recall correctly it was on the disc provided with my russian decapod.

General Discussion / Re: traction ring
June 06, 2007, 08:13:45 PM
In that case if it is in fact a traction tire all you will have to do is remove the shell for a bit easier access and then the truck side frame.
I'm a H.Oer myself so have to ask the members here, are traction tires fairly common on  N scale motive equipment?

HO / Re: Sound Decoder Prices
May 23, 2007, 11:08:44 PM
Several more thoughts.

1. Those that developed the DCC + sound decoders which by the way are far and away superior to even the one time king of sound systems PFM sound' will need to see a return on their  R&D investment.

2. As for sound equipped engines....while there is a number of Locomotives being produced with sound  'most noteably by BLI and Bachmann' most of us have medium to large stables of engines we're not going to just retire in favor of new sound equipped locos when we can upgrade our present equipment which for many of us may include engines that just are not otherwise available.

3. And yes  I would like to see the cost come down and I'm sure they will eventually , but I wouldn't expect it any time in the really near future.

Cheers!

No she's probably not the most famous ship In the world but she's the only one on fire at the moment and the thread was started to show concern for her safety ya bozo's >:(

I have seen those that would cut small opening in the ends to accomodate kadees but the best thing to do if you really wish to hang onto those old rolling stock boxs is store them away and in my case i use computer keyboard or similar  boxs lined with 1/4 foam top and bottom to store multiple pieces of rolling stock in.
Just try to keep the car length's the same.
You can also write needed information on the lid.
Car type
car length
Kadd Coupler's installed
Metal wheels installed
Etc.

HO / Re: Metal Wheel Tire vs Traction Tire
May 17, 2007, 04:19:05 PM
I myself have never cared for traction tires' They will not let drivers slip when needed thereby risking burning out a motor also i would rather do what the prototype roads did....add a helper engine. Nothing cooler than a train slogging upgrade with one of my 2-8-8-2s cut in behind the road engine.  :P

HO / Re: New 4-4-0 with a problem...
May 04, 2007, 11:18:26 PM
Hearing of all the problems associated with the Specturm line I would for one would be interested in seeing a poll as to how many of those buying these engines are having problem's and having to send them back to Bachmann for repair/replacement..... >:(

If in fact there is a difference between the Soundtraxx Tsunami decoder and the Bachmann Tsunami decoder it begs the question is this where the problem with the sound equipted Spectrum engine's is occurring?
Many modelers wish this issue to be resolved.
There seems to have been very few concerns/complaints with the DCC ready locomotives as opposed to the former
