On30 / Re: Big Stack on the 4-4-0
December 21, 2007, 06:38:50 PM
Actually that stack looks good,would look better if mounted right.

Hiltons narrow gauge book is full of examples of tiny wood burners one of them looks like a HO scale Genoa with a O scale wood cab.
Also check out some of the logging roads such as the Argent Lumber Company or the small engines of the Lawndale Railroad.
Most narrow gauge roads were like a lot of modelers,they bought what they could afford.

Thanks for the photos now I know I gonna get one and make it a slab eater.       :D                                                         Royce ::)

Take the smoke box extension off(its easy) then add the PSC(brass) Radley Hunter stack.
add lead weight to the inside of the cab to off set the weight.

I plan to add a PSC backdated 4-4-0 cab to mine with the front doors removed.

Why not add the Bachmann cabbage stack? Bachmann did a good job on it and there would be no weight problem. ::)

What about using a steam engine syphon to fill the tank from the swamp water close by. ::)              Royce

GREAT LAYOUT! ::)

BTW, MR uses the term HOn30 instead of HOn2 1/2.

What gives with that. maybe we need to spending our money on other magazines like,LID(Light Iron Digest) and RMC,the Craftsman, its a better written magazine anyway.
The only time I read MR is in the grocery store while the wife shops.

This is not a case of being too sensitive, but a case of pure disrespect. >:(

It just cuts down on confusion for beginers, kinda like the Fn3 scale thing in the beginning. most of us did not know the difference between G scale and F scale, but due to the hard work of some folks they now have the respect  and new converts.

This is a hobby and we need to support all scales from Z to F PERIOD! >:(

                                       just a thought ::) 8) ;D :)

Bachmann, has there been any thought to the smaller Maine 2 ft engines.
The small Forneys?

HO / 19th century motive power
November 15, 2007, 08:38:43 AM
Has Bachmann ever considered making some of the earlier stlye locomotives from the 19th century such as the Colorado Midland engines.

Williams by Bachmann / Re: civil war engines
November 08, 2007, 08:16:49 AM
I think Ned said it for most of us.The SMR engines are works of art ,but just out of a lot our our price range.

The civil war engines would open up a new group of modelers as a lot of the engines survived to the 20th century or until they were just wore out.

You can be accurate with the current O scale gauge because the 5 foot broad gauge was common up until I think 1886.

a lot of those engines went to logging lines also.

I think what a lot of folks would like is a updated box car that has removeable ladders,doors and such. so the doors can be hung to the right if you want with minimal trouble. :o

The gandy dancer,"hand car" can be got from Wiesman models. he has remade the old Durango Press hand car in On3. the hand car is white metal,fun to build and can be gauged to On30 very easy. and if you are modeling the early 20th century ,he also has the On3 Fairmont gasoline speeder.it is white metal and a remake of the old Period Minitures kit.
If you want to keep it in the 19th century,Wiesman has also remade the old Period Minatures velocipide,now that is a fun kit to build!

I do not work for Wiesman and no I am not related to him. these are very nice kits and everyone in On30 needs to check them out.
We owe Wiesman a big thanks for bringing out a lot of old kits for the hobby. most of them he has updated. like the RGS plow flanger 02 and the Westside Lumber snow plow now have one piece plow blades so you do not have to be a master modeler .
