General Discussion / Re: track plans
March 27, 2012, 02:41:30 PM
Are there any web sites that give some ideas to track plans???

My son and I want to have a separate double track so we can run 2 trains at the same time.
We would also like to perhaps have a third portion that is elevated.
Lastly we would like to have a railyard to keep extra stock not being used so we don't have to shelve it.
Our idea is since we switched to Fas-Track we can use the old tin-plate which has a nice petina color on
it for the railyard

Thanks everyone

the numbers are up-side down!!!!!!!!

Can that be made right???

Plasticville U.S.A. / Miixing O-Gauge and HO
March 11, 2012, 02:44:10 PM
On our layout we have both O-Gauge and HO.

It seems to be a nice workable mix. Sometimes the O-Scale even though to scale are
just "BIG". So we have mixed in the 2 it appears to work well. We have received nice
feed back about it. We are not sticklers for accuracy to scale and my kids don't seem to mind.
We use N-Scale someone was discarding for our Amusement Park, "Kiddie-Land Train".

Just having some fun until they get older and want more scale realism!!!

Mr Bachmann

Are the build it yourself buildings snap together or glue it together?

If put it together yourself kits costs less that would be welcome not to mention
working together with one's kids or Scouting Progects!!!!!!!

A strange problem has developed with this engine.

When it is first turned on after sitting idle all night., the sound system works. Afterwards not at all.
Even after I turn it off and let it sit off track for awhile.

Does anyone have any ideas or should I send it back along with the other engine Bachmann asked me to return???????

It is amazing how many rail-lines operated in our area of the midwest.
Maybe Williams can start a series. East coast and southest had some nice lines too.
I am really stuck on the Atlantic Coast Lines. I heard from a retired railroader when I
was down in Florida last month that as they would run the ACL engines through the wash,
the paint would come off and they had painters ready to re-apply the colors!!!!!!!!!!!

The boxes look pretty good now. I had them out in the Sun for awhile then I gently ran a
barely moistened sponge with a little Dawn liquid soap. The mold came right off!!!!!!!!!
There is no mold smell what so ever on those boxes.
In Classic Toy Trains magazine there is a place that sells new replacement Lionel boxes.
I plan to buy those and put into storage my originals for safe keeping.

Using the Collector Grade Break Free which has NO solvents has made the rolling stock and the old
Hudson look like new!!! I used it to lubricate the metal moving parts and the gears on the engines and they run quiet and smooth!!!!!!!!

The patina color that developed on the tin plate track looks very realistic. For our main line on our layout we will go
with the Lionel Fas-Track BUT for our rail-yard we will use the old tin-plate as well as for the dead end lines.
I saw where you can buy extra black metal "ties" to add to the tin-plate to make it look a little more realistic.

Friday a Bachmann repair person called and asked I return the GS-4 and the F-3 unit that are giving me problems.
He said he appreciated that I was willing to replace the part myself but they want to investigate and study the problem
So I will place it the mail this week and wait to see what comes back I will post when the units return!!!!!!!!!!

With Santa Fe F-3  Black-Red unit, when it is switched on for the first time you can
activate the train sound and it will do it one time only then silence!!!!!!!!!!!
