HO / Re: Reissue Spectrum 4-6-0s???
January 17, 2013, 06:20:30 AM
I agree, the Spectrum 4-6-0 with DCC and Sound is a fine loco.Just a comment, not a criticism, but it is the only steam loco that touches the side of my  side mounted Peco Turnout Motors ,coming out of small radius sidings.I watched this closely, and it is the very wide pilot. My layout is only 10x5,"Flatsville USA"rural town.
I found enough play in the turnout to ease it back just enough to clear this little fella,s pilot.
Heritage 0-6-0,Roundhouse 2-6-0,Spectrum 4-4-0,no problem on these tight places.
Old age forced me to use these easy to install turnout motors, which are not as robust as the original ones fixed under the table or hidden in small sheds.
Another good feature of this 4-6-0,is that it seems to ride smoothly over less than perfect track ,and does not derail easily. We all try to keep everything A1,but at 82, I am getting to love the simple "New Generation"of Sound DCC types ,Steam and Diesel. For instance my new Alco S4 Switcher,a real go anywhere into small places.
Yes Mr.B. although I have downsized,I think I would be able to sneak another 4-6-0 Spectrum into the roster ?

I ordered an Alco S4 Diesel Switcher DCC and Sound on Monday 7th.January from Trainworld New York U S A ,and was running it on my layout in suburban Brisbane Queensland Australia on Thursday afternoon.Talk about Flash Gordon, and his "Trip to Mars",when I was a kid,he didn,t have D H L ?.
Also I ordered this after reading a  not so good report  on this forum about this model, but I have never had a Bachmann  diesel, that did not perform great, straight out of the box.
It is hauling 6 cars around my 10x5   doing it,s running in ,by both direction movement.
This simple little switcher, may be a bit utilitarian, but it is more reliable than the one it replaces, brand unspecified ,which cost nearly twice as much, but was a source of problems, too complicated.

I am still waiting for a DCC part from the UK being sent from their store in Poland, ordered in November ?

HO / Maintenance of Way Cars -Painting
December 27, 2012, 09:34:28 PM
I have made three Roundhouse Maintenance of Way Cars  from a kit,and am asking if all such cars are painted grey?. I am modelling mainly in Old Time Union Pacific and Santa Fe,with a some  Central Pacific .
If I have a choice of any of these roads,   ,then what colours are suggested please ?.  Thanks, Owen

HO / Bachmann School Bus on the Job
September 01, 2012, 07:17:04 PM
I have just received my Bachmann HO School Bus,and it is a very good runner for it,s size. My 10x5 layout has a Bachmann School adjacent to the railway yard, and the children can either come to school in the Con-Cor School Bus by road or now by rail  to the siding behind the school, with it,s small lineside shed.
However I am disappointed with the lack of detail on the Bachmann School Bus,in comparison with the Con-Cor Motor Bus  I bought some years ago.Is there a reason why there is no signage on the Rail Bus ?. I did not consider the Bachmann School Bus to be a cheap model. Does the manufacturer expect modelers to letter this vehicle with their own area lettering ?. If so where can I buy some decals to give this great little attention getter a birth certificate at least the words School Bus ?.  Thanks  Owen Robinson

Thanks to all for the great information coming to an Australian U S Fan.Yes I agree also that old Casey should have some passenger cars to keep the memory alive. I am enthused both ways, and will enjoy the pilgrimage .

I have just bought a 4-6-0 Illinois central Casey Jones Rivarossi Loco in good condition with original box ,and wish to know what a small daily freight consist would be please?.
I will need a caboose , a few small 40ft. freight cars, possibly a combine and coach . This is to just set the scene when I take it to the club for a run.
Cabooses on the net for I C look too modern. I assume one to roughly represent this era would be wood ?
Thanks for any help here,I am excited waiting for  this one to arrive.

Thanks for that, but I am a bit slow on steam decoders.Does it go in the tender ?

Can the forum assist with some instructions to fit  a decoder to my Model Power 0-4-0 Tender Switcher please?. It is near new,and runs well.I have fitted pick-ups by using Kadee Centering Springs as per instructions previously, and it no longer stalls on points. Thanks Owen Robinson

HO / Bachmann 4-4-0 Jupiter Coaches
April 12, 2012, 08:46:52 PM
I have been a happy owner of a couple of these fine  Bachmann Jupiter 4-4-0  models, and had painted some Overton 34ft.Coaches to resemble Central Pacific. All have run well for ages, and are noticed at my train club frequently. However I would like to know if it would look out of reality if I bought a couple of 47 ft.Coaches available now with Central Pacific paintwork and run them behind the Jupiter. I do not expect it to pull large consists, but would like to buy these 47ft.new cars if the forum thought they would not look out of place. I am not a rivet counter, but try to get a fair similarity to prototype where possible. I have the original Bachmann freight cars bought with a Jupiter, and I had in mind a small mixed train. What do you think about this ? thanks Owen

Great news for modern (old) man. I put the Spectrum 4-6-0 back on the track, and it ran as it should.Everything worked on command except the headlight.I did not alter any of the default settings ?. It is a great little loco, and I am starting to feel a little better. However the 2 Athearn F7A&B Units are still hopeless ,  I put them in the cupboard until I find a friend at the club to programme them for me.Thanks for the offer Mr.Bachmann to send them back, now not needed.  Owen Robinson

Postage from Australia by Air Mail to return it  would be $37.50, a bit much  on top of purchase price and shipping from the U.S.    Bachmann service is good but warranty returns  on heavy items is difficult as shown here.   Owen Robinson

Thanks for the prompt service,it has always been good, but the postage is expensive from Australia.
I will have to do it or worry myself even more than I am at present.A down side of being 81 and still reaching for the stars. cheers  Owen
