HO / Need help with a Accurail kit
July 16, 2007, 10:57:59 PM
Hi Guys,

I got several steam era IC car kits from accurail and if I follow the instructions and add the large fishbelly under frame then I have no room to mount the trucks IS this an error in the kit or am I missing something simple.

Thanks

They should be, I got the old version and a new Silver series here and noneof the upper molds have changed.

Stephen

PS body mounting Kadees on these two cars is very simple cut off the coupler pocket on the trucks assemble a KD #5 or#148 and attach with a screw

General Discussion / Re: Happy Fourth of July!

Hi Gene,

The city of Vicksburg, Mississippi hasn't officially celebrated the 4th since 1863.
I worked for Harrah's casino in 1998 and it was kinda funny everyone commenting on how much the casinos were spending on  fireworks when the city was spending ZERO on them. In 1993 the City finally allowed its employees to take off the 4th without loosing time for it but the City fathers never actually admitted to the reason.

In Fact this year the local paper had a poll to celebrate or not for the City to vote on it.

Usually when we shoot off black powder its from the muzzle of a Cannon.

My set came with the then common comic book style instruction book basically telling you how to add smoke fluid and the on off switch for the smoke unit located behind the smoke box door on the front of the engine. and the placement of the 9v battery in the tender for the sound. It came with a oval of Bachmann hollow steel track 4 straights and 8 curves plus a small weak transformer and a wire for connecting the power.

:o ??? Wait we Celebrate the 4th in Vicksburg??? You sure the casinos might but the City hasn't since 1863. We had the annual Civil War re enactment which I used to participate in until health stopped me as a CSA Artillery Capt.

Alex if I was in your neighborhood I would be in  Red marching on to Boston to get the crowns money back for all that split tea LOL!!

But what is past is prolog.

:) This set came out in 1994. I got it for Christmas that year and was my first LS model trainset. So the Locomotive is way early for an ANNIE. I basically ran mine in the ground having fun with it.

Stephen

10 Big Haulers and 200 feet of handlaid rail later I still got it and the cars along with a old Royal Blue set.

 :) Very very nice Lanny,

I am looking forward to mine, and no more car kits for me RTR or I am not buying it after destroying a simple Accurail 40' stock car tonight unless I can find someone to build them for me at a reasonable price. Nerve damaged hands really really suck and so does having a bad eye that doctors are scared to touch.

HO / Re: need help P2K 2-10-2
June 28, 2007, 06:55:31 PM
 8) Hi Guys,

the 2-10-2 runs and sounds great so I will be keeping #2 when she comes in. I am going to see if Walthers will let me swap out a undecorated one for a #2 IC one, they have done it in the past for me on a locomotive. And boy does she pull but the Sound is great.I tend to use the Whistle  to let everyone in the house know I am awake.

I am going to have to modify one curve on my little layout so I can really streach her legs since I no longer belong to a train club locally due to health.

It wants curves of 22" or greater no 18" no matter what the reviewer says in MR and the lettering is spot on for the IC.So its close enough for me and beats the heck out of those two brass lemons on the shelf.

Lanny IC #908 sure is looking good I should of broke down and told you to do the tender as well lol.

I got a Silver series crane and boom tender witha 2007 copyright  on the box and  the couplers had the plastic knuckle whisker and then ordered new spot light cars that had the metal coil spring MK2s which still got replaced beforethe first run.

 ;) Hi Gene,

The middle pole is a 40'  footer and the other two are 20 footers.Every now and then I have to leave the middle one bare when I hang out the English Naval Jack and Old Glory on the same day like the annv for Traflagar (sp) Lord Nelsons victory over the Spanish and French. I also fly the German Naval  Jack one day a year at half staff in the memory of two great cousins who died onboard the Battleship BISMARCK that fateful day in May 1941 they joined the Navy to escape the German Army and Hitler but still lost their lives.

Stephen

PS most people around here knows what the first national looks like ;D

Hi Gene,

Got Old Glory flying high today in this 100+ degree heat here in Mississippi, but I fly the flag every day its not raining or snowing or high winds. I got 3 flag poles to fly all 3 proper flags Old Glory on the middle and the State flag of MS and the Confederate First National on the 3rd pole.

HO / Re: Accurail ready to run
June 10, 2007, 06:54:49 PM
Hi Lanny,

They are made by Centralia Car shops, very limited run assembled by Intermountain. Only thing I dont like about them is they use Accumate couplers.

I think you will like the red ones better as they are Steam era and Green Diamond era paint schemes. Ron at Deplaines Hobbies has them all in stock Orange ones are $31.00 the Reds are $25.00 but come with plastic wheels which I got to find some more 33" simi scale wheel sets for.

You up to doing 4 for me and adding scaleKadee couplers to them?

I'll drop you a Email.

Stephen

PS: I am finally getting my order of IC and GM&O hoppers from Discount Trains after 5 months of waiting and calling them to cancel the order  ::) all Accurail kits except for the 4 piggyback flatsand a Con Cor Greenville open hopper.

June 08, 2007, 03:05:27 PM
:) Now Virginian thatis a good idea! I will have to give it a shot. Found a new version of it with DCC and  Sound for $209.95 and my IC 2-10-2 is only 269.95 so it looks like I am going train shopping again.

Mom bought me a  IC outside braced boxcar accurail kit even tho I managed to destroy two strup steps I got it built.

Now to find a good replacement parts for strrup steps ect. for all my models that have minor details broken or missing.
