I'm looking to get some PSX-ARs for my layout as well because they can operate the turnout as well as reverse the loop polarity.  My trains like to derail on occasion because I forget to set the points.

However, there are two versions of PSX-AR:  One for Tortoise switches, and another for snap coil switches.

Best make sure you get the correct one.  ;)

On30 / Streetcar roof removal?
November 11, 2019, 03:54:57 PM
My Christmas Village Streetcar auto-reversing set just arrived, and the pole on the roof broke off during shipping.  (It's a used set so no warranty)

I tried removing the roof from a spare United Traction body I have, but the poles on the ends got bent while trying to pull them out from the holes in the corners.

What can be done to prevent bending the poles when I order a new roof?

Are you using a total of four insulators or gaps on the turnout?

4 feet is pushing it, but shouldn't be a total loss of power.

Is it possible that one or more of your feeders to the loop is connected backwards, causing the short?

Yes, it is possible you shorted the tracks.

The trains may need new decoders or motors now.

You can upload it on another site and post a link to it here.

The gapped rails are supposed to be on the loop side if it helps, not the main line.

Did you isolate the return loops on the main line side, or the loop side of the turnout?

Personally, I would not use EZ Track.  The plastic vibrates with the wheels and gets quite noisy.

My modular group uses 2" sheets of insulation foam as the base with wood framework to support it.

On top of that we use cork roadbed and flex-track, the combination is quiet enough for use at train shows.

There is now foam roadbed that may be even more sound-absorbent, though I haven't tried it myself:  https://woodlandscenics.woodlandscenics.com/show/category/HOScaleTrackBedSystem

If you still want to use EZ Track, there was a discussion earlier this year which had good tips:  https://www.bachmanntrains.com/home-usa/board/index.php/topic,35966.0.html

Abrupt stops are detrimental to the Bachmann Trolley motor block. Suggest using automatic shuttle reversing circuit product with gradual braking feature.

Is that also true for the On30 model?

I've bought some used ones before that were poor runners, and just ordered my first auto-reversing set.

The easiest solution may be to combine a good battery and a dead battery to give it half the voltage.

More complicated solutions would be installing resistors or a rheostat, or even wiring one set of battery terminals together so only one battery is needed.

You can also try wiring up a 'dummy plug' that sends rail voltage directly to the motor, as if it were a DC model.

Then touch a 9v battery directly to the rails and see if the motor turns.

The ruler in those last two images was close enough.

Thank you very much!

On30 / Derrrick car crane dimensions?
November 03, 2019, 11:25:29 AM
Can somebody tell me how tall and long the crane is on the On30 derrick car?

Thank you.

It could be the controller.  Do other locomotives have the same problem?

Does the motor sound any different?

Perhaps one of the DCC speed settings glitched, have you tried resetting the decoder?

Interesting valve gear at 4:40.

N / Re: Railcars randomly disconnect

Is your track on a flat surface?  Height differences below the track will affect what's above it too.

Also, double-check your rail connections; If a joiner's going under a rail the cars will lift on that side.
