N / Best Track
April 20, 2008, 02:23:34 PM
I am building a coffee table layout. Everything I have done is in HO scale but in the coffee table I need to do it in N Scale. What is the most trouble free track you can use for this? Thanks for input because I am not familiar with N scale. Larry

Thanks, any suggestions on the website or layout. Some of the pictures are from our club layout in Dothan, AL and the 2007 train show but the others are all from my layout. My oldest son built me this room in his shop after I have had several open heart surgeries. I don't know how much longer I have on this earth. I am living on on stint and if it closes that is it. I was just wanting some input before that happens. Thanks to all

I have building on my layout for about a year and half now and am always looking for advice and input from others. I have a web site at http://www.larrystrain.org built by my son-in-law. I would appreciate any input from fellow model railroaders. I am trying to model the Salamanca Branch of the PRR. Thanks for your input. Larry

HO / Re: Turntable & Round House Selection

Just to add a little more to what everyone has already said. I installed the Walthers 90' turntable and it was easy to index and a great addition to my engine faciity. I have no problem recommending their TT. You can see mine at http://www.larrystrain.org and look at the engine facility. Larry

I also have the Walthers Turntable. I just finished installing it and after doing the indexing it workes great. The only thing I was not clear on with their directions was programming both sides of the turntable track to all the tracks coming into the turntable. After I finished that it works fantastic and I would highly recommend it to anyone. Larry

To answer one question; the engine is going by itself with no cars behind. Maybe it was going to fast but usually I do not run anything very fast. Maybe it is suppose to be noisy as one gentleman suggested. The only thing that bothers me in any other engine of a different brand it never happens; plus Bachamn's higher priced engines do not do it and that is why I thought it might be something in the CV's of the DCC. I am just not sure if there is anything else I could try. Thanks again

Why does the new Bachman Sharks sound like it is grinding meat when it slows down or goes down a grade. Anyone know what to do to get rid of the grinding. Thanks a head of time for all info. Larry

The turntable is the new one they have out that is automatic and all you have to do is index it. I just don't know if you have to have some kind of DCC hookup. Thanks

I installed a walthers turntable that is installed and ready for indexing. I am running DCC throughout. In the instructions it says nothing about special wiring for DCC. Do you have to wire the TT in a special manner when using DCC? Thanks

Gene, thanks for the info. Where would you get the decals to match the bachman gold lettering? Thanks

I have two 4-4-0 with the same number. Has anyone tried to change the numbers on Bachmans 4-4-0? If you did what did you do. Thanks Larry

HO / Bachman steam engine wiring
January 21, 2008, 06:51:51 PM
I have been having a lot of trouble with the wires on Bachman steam engines; the ones that attach the engine to the tender. They are so stiff that is sometimes lifts the tender of the tracks. I don't know if putting more weight in the tender or there might be some other secrets. There must be some good tips to fix the problem out there in Model railroad land. I always appreciate the tips from folks. Thanks. Larry (PS. I am working with a K4 right now and it is giving me a fit)

Rich,
Have you ever used them to light up a large structure. They look like the thing to use. I have the Walthers diseal house and round house to light and any help you could give me would be appreciated. I need a model railroad electrical book for Dummies. Thanks for any advice. Larry
