On30 / Re: New On30 announcement questions
February 12, 2007, 10:47:37 PM
Dear Hamish,
It is indeed a 2-6-0.
Still no DCC in any Porters.
Have fun!

Dear Rich,
I'd guess 0-80, but I'll get a ruling tomorrow.

Dear Vince,
Dogfish- new version, brown and tan colors.
Yes.
Not DCC. (Darn!)

Large / Re: 36 ton shay
February 12, 2007, 10:40:27 PM
Dear Peter,
It may be time to replace the trucks. I'd suggest getting a pair of the new metal trucks; they are easy to install and very powerful.
Have fun!

Large / Re: Switching shell on engine/tenders
February 12, 2007, 10:37:23 PM
Dear Kenny,
The tender shells pose no problems, but some of the new valve gear on the loco may require minor modification. Nothing a modeler of moderate skills couldn't do, however.
Have fun!

General Discussion / Re: dc - dcc
February 12, 2007, 10:28:42 PM
Dear dd,
Any locomotive can be converted, but some can be quite a challenge. If a particular loco proves too complicated, you can run it on an analog address, 10 on our controller.
Basically, you must isolate the motor from the track power so it gets power only from the decoder. There are many sites with basic or specific instructions.

General Discussion / Re: rock formation
February 12, 2007, 10:24:21 PM
Dear Alex,
On the display layout I built, I used Hydrocal and rock molds from Woodland Scenics. It's really easy to mix the hydrocal, and it dries in the mold very quickly. When the rocks harden, I glued them on the basic scene with DAP. Go to their website to see step by step instructions, and check out the photo gallery.

General Discussion / Re: Mr. Bachmann - New York Toy Fair
February 12, 2007, 08:52:11 PM
Dear Kevin,
The new announcements are posted. Remember, they are only first-quarter announcements, and there will be more as the year goes on!
I know this will take some getting used to.
Have fun, and if what you're hoping for doesn't appear, presumably in 90 days or so you'll have another chance!

HO / Re: Bach Man, are your HO #4 switches power-routed?
February 11, 2007, 11:26:01 PM
Dear Steve,
Our regular remote turnouts, unlike the numbered turnouts, have a curved section basically overlaid on a straight section for use in sectional track layouts. They are not power routing.
Numbered turnouts, like their prototypes, have a divergent straight section. The number tells how many units of straight run equal one unit of divergence, like rise and run on a roof.
Have fun!

HO / Re: Spectrum GS4?
February 11, 2007, 11:16:16 PM
Dear Trains,
None has been announced at this time. The upgraded Standard Line loco makes it less likely to be an imminent release.
Have fun!
