HO / Re: N&W 4-8-4 J Class alignment

Looking at the diagram for the J believe i see what your talking about p/n 00T03....strange looking drawbar if thats it,also see what looks like a mating part 00T02 with slots for the drawbar to fit in, try lubing those slots with a little plastic compatible grease ,bet you'll also find the same slots on the locomotive frame under the cab....lube those also.
try it and let us know if it helps.

On open frame motors only lube the front and rear motor bearing's with a light oil.also check and see if the is a sponge like lubricating pad near the rear bearing ....oil it good but not to the point the oil might leak back out.

MTH has a video of it running on their website, must say the sound is outstanding and even though i abhorr smoke generaters their's with the use if a fan is impressive, now if they can come up with a non oil base smoke fluid they'd really have something.

You'll need to understand that long wheelbase locomotives  need larger numbered switch's... minimum would be a no.6 preferred no.8
Even 8 coupled locos won't like and will have trouble getting through a no.4

None were ever produced in plastic.
Only one's you'll find available will be in brass as they used a tender from one of the turbines and these are difficult to find by themselves.
You might have some luck seaching around on ebay.

Micro-mark also has Bachmann sound equiped engines at a very reasonable price.

While a couple of the DCC equipted or DCC ready  Bachmann tenders with connectors may be interchangable most are not without modifing the boards within the tenders .
Look back through the posts here for more information on how some are doing this..

General Discussion / Re: View blocks
January 06, 2008, 04:41:41 PM
Gene
Day was when most everyone used 1/4 inch masonite  for view blocks . We here at the Arizona Model Railroading Society have found 1/2 to 3/4 extruded foam to be much more versital. while adding more depth to most scenes.
Theres just so much more you can do with it ,hills and mountains blending into sky etc.

F3 is the default short whistle and should only produce one short blast, do not believe there is a CV that will change this, which brand of throttle are you using ?

HO / Re: Specturm 4-6-0 driver size'
January 04, 2008, 05:02:00 PM
I was under the impression the 10 wheeler came out shortly before the 4-4-0 so stand corrected.
was thinking of the 63 inch drivered version because thought the slightly bigger tender would be more sound decoder friendly.
frankly like the looks of the 52 inch drivered version a little better (bell placement etc.) plus with the drivers  matching the 2-10-0 and motor/gearing similar are the same they should i think doublehead together nicely....hopefully!
So if this is possible the next question is is the smaller low sided tender big enough to fit in a mico tsunumai decoder and speaker?
Has anyone as yet tried this conversion?

January 04, 2008, 09:32:18 AM
Anyone know what the driver size is on the new spectrum 10 wheeler?
was just wondering....
Also 'why is it so difficult to find one with the larger USRA tender for sale?
