Gene, thanks.  I'll let them know.

#94,  yep I agree on the museum.  I think these two can be brought to life again though.  I know #9 will be operating within the next year.  However, # 8 needs a lot more attention!  they have had the boilers checked and strength tested and the boilers are exceptable!  That I guess is the hard part.  I actually know very little about steam engines other than their operating principles.  I hope to learn alot about them in the near future.  I think it's exciting to work on them, of course all this labor is volunteer work.  If anybody is interested and lives nearby, they have several projects that need attention.  Membership is 25.00 per year and you have to be a member to volunteer.  Pretty much the same as any RR Museum.  This is ground floor to.  The WVRR Museum doesn't have any real estate yet just locos and rolling stock.  Plans are in the works to rebuild the Western Maryland Roundhouse back on the Elkins Rail Yard!  Alot of neat stuff coming up soon.  Just in case anyone's interested.  Stephen

I understand.  That was just a general comment.  For instance, I know of four C&) K-4s, most in poor to deplorable shape.  But I bet if you took all of them, one could be restored to steam.
Gene

Gene,
didn't mean to make it sound as if I was correcting you or anything like that, just excited about doing some work on the 2-8-0's.  Just wanted to give you a little info there!  Sorry about that.  You say you know of four K4's!  Where are they at?  Surely some museum would be interested in them.      Stephen

I'd rather see one operating than five stuffed and mounted!
Gene

Gene, just a little FYI.  Those two 2-8-0 now belong to the WV RR Museum and are being restored as we speak.  I became a member in October and as soon as I get back home I am going to help with those restorations!  They also have a Heisler that is literally in pieces that needs restored.  They are going to use the Baldwin Consols for tourist excursions on a regular basis, when they get them finished!  Stephen

He was going down the mountain,
Makin' ninety miles an hour,
When his whistle broke into a scream....

Strangely enough he wasn't even hurt.  He was in a different battalion so I don't know if he had to pay for the truck and the 8" ammo on it.  It did light up the sky.  We saw it at a range of about five miles, I guess and thought the Air Force was dropping flares while looking for North Korean special operations troops trying to escape.
Gene

Wow!  He didn't get hurt?  I would have thought the same thing....looking for infiltrators and the glow was flares!    Stephen

Nah,
We'll have a tank up on stilts in South River Yard to allow the diesels to refuel via gravity.  Reminds me of the guy in the 1(8")/17 Arty in Korea who was topping off a ten ton ammo truck at night and wanted to see how much more gas he needed to add.  No flashlight, but he did have his Zippo.....
Gene

Bet that lit up the night sky!  lol  I would venture a guess he didn't do that anymore either!      Stephen

But surely Gene, your desiels are 'coal fired', right?

:-)

Gene, I know, your diesels are using fuel from the "Coal Liquification" plant, huh?       lol                 Stephen

Tim, this is very interesting!  I was looking at the new ESU controller but I like the Dynamis better.  Any idea when it is coming to us?  Stephen

General Discussion / Re: Calling The Bach-man
March 25, 2007, 11:30:19 AM
G'day Mark
Good to see new faces on the board.  Bach-Man usually watches this board but it is something he does in his spare time.  He will reply just hang tight for a bit.  If you need to call them, don't try the toll free number. It is used a lot and very difficult to get through on.  I call there regular number and don't have any problems.  Looks like this post got through though!  I am currently doing the same thing you are with my EZ track.  At least until I learn what I'm doing anyway!  lol  Stephen

Sheldon, you mentioned there was a difference between the design characteristics of Peco and Atlas code 100 track.  What is the defference?  I intend to develope my large layout with Atlas code 83 because it seems to be the closest to prototypical.  I want as much information as I can get before spending all this money on it.  Stephen
