Hi trainkrzy,

This assumes that all of your units start in the same direction when in the lash-up.  If units are fighting each other on the initial startup, you will need to reverse the motor wires on the unit(s) that initially start(s) in reverse.

Here is the key to keeping multiple units in sync.

When changing directions, make sure to use the direction button and not the throttle lever.

PRESS AND HOLD the direction button for 1 FULL SECOND after the train has come to a COMPLETE STOP.  Press and hold for one full second for every sequence.

The reason for this procedure is that while the train is drifting with the power off, the motors act as generators keeping power to the reverse boards.  Also, electronic components can vary values +/- 10% so the full second allows all stored energy in the capacitors to bleed off.

If you follow these instructions, this should work every time.  If you forget and they do get out of sync, turn off the power for 15 seconds and they should all reset to the forward direction.

Try this and let me know if it works for you.

Hi Eric,

Everything is the same on the NW-2s except the paintscheme.  The 2008 catalogs were shipped in April 2008.  We are working on the 2009 catalogs now.

Hi Dominic,

I have not compared the overhang.  I think it should be about the same. The lengths of the E-7's are a slight bit longer, but the rear wheels are flanged which should make the overhang a little less.  When I get a spare moment I will check.  We recommend 0-42 for the passenger cars; the overhang is more.

As far as the E-8/9's, we chose the E-7's at the time because no other O Gauge company was offering them and they were originally delivered to about 30 railroads.  This gave us a unique product offering.

A little Williams trivia, in 1991 we had announced the E-9 model was in the developmental stages.  Shortly after that, Weaver introduced its model and did not sell very well because most modelers were not ready for a large scale locomotive.  Jerry Williams canceled the project, but the tooling for the side frames was already completed.  We began to use this side frame on the E-60 electric and having this tooling played a factor in the decision to make the E-7.

Thanks for the TS trivia; I learned this during the research process. I should be able to post the photos next week.

Hi Dominic,

The E-7's will run on as little as O-31.  Yes, there is overhang on the curves, but it will make it with no problems.

Hi Mike,

We are replacing the illustrations in the Traditional Line section of the catalog with photos, but the Golden Memories section will remain illustrated.  The replacement of images in the Traditional line will be probably not be completed until the 2010 catalog.

Joe is correct only the magnet would be triggered.

On a perfect UCS the 4th and 5th rails should be slightly lower than the center rail and no contact would occur.  However, I have seen many UCS tracks with the same height rails and some even have the control rails higher.  On tubular track the center rail is always the highest rail due to the thickness of the insulator, but the UCS is molded plastic, so the height can vary.

If you do not locate the UCS directly attached to a curved track, the roller is not swinging out over the control rails and contact should not occur.

The cars have been produced, and are enroute to us.  We should be shipping them out to members in the early part of March.
