HO / 1990's Rivarossi 4-8-8-4 (Bigboy) lubrication

Does anyone know the pariculars on lubing this engine?  I have started hearing a "whine" as this engine runs.  I lubed it from the underside.  There is 2 small gears visable.  This did not help.  I think it could be the motor bearings, but the instructions that come with the loco no not show the "breakdown".
Thanks for the help!!

Gunslinger,
I would like to purchase BOTH of the OLD 4-4-0's  like in the "Golden Spike" celebration.  I have looked at the ones that Bachmann did.  They just look too "Toy Like"....  A Spectrum quality set of these 2 would be great!!

Of course while we are at it....

How about a  GN P-2 Class 4-8-2 Heavy Mountain?  No one has done this in plastic....  I NEED 4 to pull my 1920's Empire Builder Passenger trains.  I already have all the rolling stock, MINUS the Engines.... :'(

GG,
Yes the guard rail is still in place.  I have checked the switch with the NMRA gauge, and all seems gapped correctly.

Bob,  I will check into the "New" ones just in case I need to use one for space considerations...

Jim, yes I think it is that the plastic has worn down that covers the points where they separate the two opposing rails.  What kind of Epoxy would work in this instance?  Are there any you have used? What brands are better for these applications?  Will this "FIX" last for a couple of weeks?

I WILL be replacing the turnout as soon as my order arrives...  I do not have a LHS close... :'(

Dear ALL,
Thanks for the info on this.  My layout has always ran really well...   I do have several Engines that DO NOT like this turnout, anyway.  I was being lazy for a while not wanting to replace all the #4 switches....
It is possible that there was a problem before while I used DC.  The New DCC system IS teaching me new things ...

I have 39 engines,
26 steamers,
4 diesel switchers,
9 road diesels.
I model the UP and GN exclusively.  MY R/Road is called the Great Union Pass,(as there is a rather large curved wooden trestle on the backside ;D)  I have a few Other roads that have been given to me and I keep them servicable for when the "givers" are over..

And my whole family has a lot of fun helping me run the layout!!
(Now that I have DCC)

HO / Switch shorting out on #4
March 25, 2008, 09:29:46 AM
Dear Board,
Now I know why I should have used other switches.....
I have an #4 Customline switch that has been cleaned to the point that it shorts out now!  It seems that the plastic between the frog points have dimminished .  The wheels make contact at the points and cause the DCC system to short.  This happens EVERY time an engine crosses the switch, while traveling along the main.  It does not short when the switch is thrown, and the engine diverges to the sideing!???  I think the cause is from the constant "Pad" on my cleaning boxcar.  I think I need to block the "Smallest" rail in the frog point,...  but do not really know how...

I have ordered a #6 turnout to replace it, but I cannot run any trains on the main until then....   :(
Any suggestion would be helpful!!

Thanks,

General Discussion / Re: EZ Command cable
March 21, 2008, 10:49:22 PM
Bob,
I feel that we are talking about two different cables...

I need various lengths of the Square 8 pin (?)  cable that comes with the panels or Walk around companion.  It connects from the EZ-Command to the panels.  I also NEED to connect the panels over 8 feet apart, and the current cables are exactly 8 feet long (not including having to bend them to connect).
I had read SOMEWHERE, my mind is slipping, that it was possible to make these cords, and that there was a crimping tool, and connectors for this...
Of course I was NOT paying attention then......

Thanks for the response!!

JJan,
I have asked the same question, earlier.  I need various lengths of this cable.  I had heard of "Making your own cable" elsewhere....

Mr. Bachmann,
Are the connectors for this system that one could buy and then make their OWN lengths.  I guess that I need to know if these connections are "Bachmann" specific, or are standard connectors??

Bob,
I also use this Kadee tool to bend piping on all my model projects.  It has 3 different spots to do this...
Now you have a "multiple " use tool, too!!

OK,
I see that there is only one panel in this package, I just needed a better picture to see my mistake.  Now I answered my own question....   It MUST be Monday!!

Thanks anyway....

HO / EZ-Command Companion Connector panels
March 17, 2008, 01:53:56 PM
Mr Bachmann,
I have the Walk around Companion.  I have ordered #44908 Connector panels.  I see 2 (two) panels, in the picture, but are there 2 (two) connector cords, so one can use both of them?  If not, how does one purchase the "Extra" cord needed to use both of them?

Bob,
Could you send me the instructions for the plate on the 70 ton switcher?
I have a great idea for a kit bash...  and I think this will be the solution!

Thanks,

HO / Re: Minimum radius for bachmann products
March 08, 2008, 05:29:21 PM
Bob,
I fixed the Bachmann 2-10-2 to run on my layout!!  It seems that the Southern unit Cab roof hits the Tender top.  I just filed the tender coal frame to an angle, instead of a "Box" corner.  Now it tracks curves perfectly!!  It still hates my only #4 switch...  In any direction!!! ;D

Dear All,
Yes, I know about the Walk Around Companion.  I will eventually have to purchase it.  I was just wanting the power cord, and the Red connector wires to be close to the same length: so I would not put strain on either cord.  My current walking area is limited to about 14 feet (The front of the Layout).  I just wanted a "Quick fix" untill I build my new control pannel.....   Thanks for all the advice!
