I might go catch the local but that's it  :(. I was thinking of going to Berea to rail fan but its no. >:(. The other thing is that it's raining! :o Just great! :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

I don't want to be the stingy person here, but, please control your smileys. Using too many smileys takes up space, and kind of overrides what your trying to say, well what I'm trying to say is it attracts all the attention to them. And, for your next post after that, try not to double post, that's what Modify at the bottom of post is for. Not trying to be rude, just saying it. But, every newbie does it.

HO / Re: Acela Express set's future availability?

I've got to agree with Robbs. Well, I don't have the set, but my friend does. He cant run his for 2 reasons. 1. Almost all of the couplers are broken. I forgot to tell him Bachmann has replacements in the Order Parts part of this website. 2. The front plow kinda thingy hit part of his rail and derailed it, so he does'nt have it on there anymore.

That would make an interesting trip if I ever make it up to Michigan, too bad they don't have a schedule other than when the boss is in a good mood on weekends. My son would love a ride on a steam engine, especially if daddy has the one "just like it"

Well, I went there about 3-4 years ago, maybe the schedule has changed. They also have a small gift shop there, a pretty big HO layout, passenger and frieght cars, and more engines than just 1225. But I just remembered that the tour guide told us that it was saved from scrap because some guy liked its christmas number(12-25, christmas, ya know).

Here BE a website link that is all about the Pere Marquette RR!

http://www.pmhistsoc.org/

from the same site as above,,a map of the PM routes

http://www.pmhistsoc.org/maxpmmap.shtml

Those links are pretty neat. And, it said the citys name 1225 was in. Owosso, that's been bugging me for the past 3 or 4 years because I couldn't remember its name.

Up north in Michigan, in a small town, (I forgot the name), I've seen the real live 1225 Berkshire they used in the movie The Polar Express. It still had the name Polar Express on the tender. They said on weekends, if the boss was in a good mood, they ran the train around the small town, carrying passengers in passenger coaches. But, I was there on a weekday, and all I got to do was ring the bell. But, also, I got to see an Allegheney at the Henry Ford Museum, and got to go in the cab.

Hmm, an 0-6-0 switcher, even though I don't have one, I'm almost positive that would go around 22" curves.

The roundhouse cars are foobies. The B&M ones were mostly 68 foot cars, although there were a few 66 footers, but the Athearn Roundhouse ones are 50ft. Their is a company that was going to come out with them in resin, but I don't know what became of that, and there is a company based in Methuen Massachusetts, who is re-releasing the old Ambroid Cars with new Laser Cut parts, and upgraded details. They have already announced a new production of the old Ambroid B&M Snow Plow, and I believe the commuter coaches will be coming out in late 2009/2010. It sure would be nice to have a 2-6-0 to pull a few...

Its possible they made them 50ft maybe because a 66 or 68fter would'nt fit around a certain radius like 18" or something. It's not a big deal to me because I'm not really picky about correct length, depending on how much of a difference it is.

Sparks, I think I know why those 3 engines don't have front couplings. All except James, sort of, are shunting engines. In the show, you see Thomas pushing the cars hard, and they don't stick to the front. If he were to have front couplings, they would stay together. Also, even though I don't have her, many people are saying Mavis has horrible pulling power. If so, they could just put a new engine in her.

...as for rolling stock, bachmann 1998? and up , have screw on coupler covers, athearn cars have snap on covers, proto 1000 ( most of them ) have snap on covers,...

Yeah, I hate Athearns snap on. It always comes off on one of my boxcars.

Thanks for the replies. Since I'm only 12 years old, I don't know how to replace the coupler boxes and all that, so I guess I'll just use the Scenemaster.

Well, now I have a question. I read on another topic that you could'nt just drop in a Bachmann E-Z mate coupler into the same coupler box as the Horn Hook couplers. I have many cars and loco's with Horn Hook couplers, and I want to replace them. Anyone know anything about this, and what type of coupler I should use?

I changed all but 4 of my hook-horn cars to knuckle couplers using Scenemaster Couplers:

10 Pair
Walthers Part # 433-1427, p. 259 Walthers 2009 HO Scale Reference
HO scale, $7.98, currently in stock at Walthers

* Works with All Other Knuckle Couplers * Constructed of Tough Engineering Plastic * Magnetic Action * Easy Upgrade for Older Life-Like Train Set Cars

They're cheap and work.  Fish out your Hook-Horn & slip these in.

luck-
Rick

Just incase those Scenemasters dont work, what kind of Kadee coupler could I use, #5?

Pike's Peak Cog Railway is only 25% maximum grade, but still a breath taking ride.

I second that.

Thanks Rick. I'll have to count how many cars and loco's I have that are equipped with Horn-Hook, and see how many of those I have to order.
