Hi Hev,

Changing the handrails is not a simple change. We would have to modify the body shell of each model and make a different floor.  The modification to the body shell would make our investment in paint masks unusable.   Some people prefer the sturdy handrails because they are great for kids.

Going forward we will probably make most new models with the wire handrails like the SD-45.

Hi Steam,

We thought about the 682, but the linkage design of the original was always a problem.  It tended to jam.

I had once asked if it was appropriate to ask questions about other products and was assured that was OK to do so in the General Discussion forum.  For example, I asked about how to make DC to DCC conversions of Athearn engines and a very informative discussion ensured.  I also asked certain questions about certain Atlas engines.

Is this sort of thing still permissible...or are we limited to discussing Bachmann products only?  I will, of course, abide by the Code of Conduct but that's still not clear to me.

Directly from the original post:

You may mention and discuss the products of other manufacturers, but please don't use our board for their announcements. Also, please refrain from criticizing other manufacturers, as they are not here to respond.

Hi Casey,

Sure we will have them all in the next catalog! ;)

But seriously, we look at all suggestions when we are deciding what to do in the future, but we are not going to show our hand... not even a little.

Hi Okie,

It is a separate catalog.  The Bachmann catalog includes HO, N, ON30, Large Scale, and scenery products for all scales.

Hi Sunrise,

Everyone has more features that they would like to see.  Our goal is to provide an affordable product with enough features that make the product desirable in the market.  When we start to add every advanced feature that the competition has in more expensive products, our products will increase in price as well. I attend a lot of shows and find that if you ask ten people what they would like to see you get ten different answers.  My next question is "how much would you be willing to pay for this feature?", and most want it for no additional cost.

To answer your three concerns:

1. Better Smoke:  I have looked at this before and this would require a significant increase in cost per unit.  This is probably not going to happen unless costs decrease.

2. Improved sound on TBII: With improvements in electronics, we may be able to make this happen in future models.

3. Series wiring: I am working on an easy and inexpensive solution to this.

Williams by Bachmann / Re: Multiple Units

Hi trainkrzy,

You said keeping them in sync was a pain, I told you the correct way to do it.  No pain, no modifications.

You cannot hook 4 powered units together with one reverse board. The board is rated for 6 amps and two motors draw about 2-2.5 amps.  Four units would draw 8-10 amps and that would burn out the board.

You could hook two units together, but no more.  You would simply run the two motor wires from one unit and hook them to the motors on the other unit.  You could then remove one of the reverse boards.  But you would still have to keep two boards in sync.
