well let me give this a shot .  hit the program menu   go to screen  program  0003  ok     hit check mark    then find  write address   hit check   ok     change address  thats where you put new address in   then hit your program    make sure you are on service track   power off on maintrack  ALLWAYS.  you might program other things to that address or change things you dont want changed.     now your loco jerks a little  like 2 times   .      now go back and add the name to that address you like .     had no trouble with this method  unless i dont have my glasses on and program the main with the power on and program 12 locos to the same adddress .  so i added that safety feature in how to do it      Dave

HO / Re: Small Layout

i also live close to SlC and have dealt with the  low numbers of retailers there and up in Ogden.    i did like the shop in clearfield .   if i was going to do a small layout i would go up just a hair more  5 x 8 or even 9 or 10      width is the killer on 4 ft wide.   and what type of track are you going to use  EZ track?       and  i would also have 2 switches so i could add a extension table  for a temp rail extension when you have more time to run the trains.       Dave

8 star  gaz   kids really like doing what dads do or grandpa does .    and my grandson only found  2 tubs of track and cars and engines.   i have a long tub yet to get out for him to put togather   but it was hes xmas gift this year and buying mattel train stuff at garage sales for hardly nothing.   its battery operated with remote sound controls.  he loves honking the horns.     and i bet you had just as much fun as him.

i built me a sound powered box car.  can hook up to any loco and its not the correct sound  but gives any loco horns, bell and motor sound.

HO / Re: LED and resistor?
October 04, 2013, 11:32:30 PM
ive done some LEDS  like xmas lights  on a string  i cut off like 3 for a building  they run in series    i put a 10k pot to them  on my dc train transformer   from tyco our bachmann    i dont use the the ac voltage .    i have the pot set high 10k ohms   and lower it until the lights light up (lower the resistance and max voltage on transformer  i find where they start getting bright and stop.    i check the ohms of my pot with a harbor frieght volt-ohm meter  and find proper resisters to match close  .                 why i like the the dc transformers is that i can change the brightness on my buildings .  and can run a whole bunch  with little cost .   i want to share this if someone had a hard time to come up with the right resisters for there LEDs.     Dave

so what about the turbo trains that climbed walls?

i have 2 sets of turbos     they also jump .         in the future in my layout  i will set it up in my amusement park for the roller coaster.

my old F-7 tycos and Bachmanns shells  get a up_grade to new Bachmann chassis with dcc.     i only do the ones i like the best .  i still own my first tycos locos and cars  and a Santa Fe 4-8-4  long tender  with a pancake motor , i un geared it and put a dcc bachmann chassie in the tender    but it derails to easy  so it just sits for the plasticville children can play on it.   on my 4x8 sheet i had  2 rails powered separately  and ran 2 trains at once     later on i got the turbo train at a auction for 1 buck  and later on i got another with track problems for nothing.
to compare the 2  old timers for today's     no match at all     Dave

General Discussion / Re: dynamis fault finding
August 25, 2013, 02:29:35 PM
sometimes lighting may effect the controller   i had one FL type of light interfere with signal .        does anyone in your area have a dynamis set also.     or does your hobby store have one set up.      recheck your batteries even start with a new set of them  like others have mention.     do you have a short on your tracks  things that might cause other issues might even cause this not to respond (not sure but give it a try).     i have a full set up with pro box and 4 recievers    plus 5 amp booster .   my booster dectects shortage in track  i havent had just the dynamis by itself.     i hope this helps  and finding someone else with a dynamis is a plus in your area     DAve

i feel i have taken a another step in modeling the railroad or share my successful ideas.   almost like learning the first time in changing  a CV.   just a couple of weeks ago my old flip phone of 6 yrs died .   so i bought a Iphone 4  for just .99 cents.

i haven't really built a layout i really want yet but i do have a floor layout the fills my upstairs almost (one bedroom left) and i did post a train ride one that was on my facebook account  in show me your layout discussion.   it took a weekend of filming and yet theirs a couple of issues with it.  i just decided i had enough for the weekend .  ill take your advice and do another film session  soon .   yes i use a tripod or set it up that i only touch go and stop .  my assistant (brakeman) has alot to learn also when we full run my trains.  i will deleted this thread in a couple of days and do a correct one  showing my dcc box car conversions so other railroad fans can learn to try to do.   it has solved putting sound in a loco that has not much room and just add it to any other train i want sound on  .  i can run  to infinite of cars with  with just a few locos heading the train  with powered box cars  stuck here and there to help pull and stop and backup.   i have used those old pancake motors F7s from bachmann and tyco  and made them come to life  the ones i like the most and i had when i was younger .   back to take some passangers to their destination .   i want to build one with that gets hot wheels that makes the squill  sound  and a orange LED to show its hot on the wheel set  through a simple sound decoder.

Ive been doing trains for three years now  (hooked) what got me back was the DCC and much better quality of railroad merchandise on the market at lower cost .     Dave
