I believe Bachmann sells those through their parts-department.
Check it out.

NWSL does have a re-gear set for the 2-truck Climax.  I haven't attempted to install mine yet.  They have a very extensive instruction sheet.  What you get gear-wise is six (6) beveled gears and two washers/spacers.  These are for the two trucks themselves.  I'm not sure if they have any for the main gearbox.

I don't have any 'squeaking', I must've done something right.  My Rivarossi Heisler squeaks though...but I think it's supposed to.

Hi Brad,

I've done four of these re-gears and the only thing I can think of is that you may have reattached the truck too tightly to the frame.  Check to see that it pivots side-to-side and rocks fore and aft AND side-to-side.  Then make sure the drive-shaft slides easily in and out.  It takes a little "tweaking" but, it's worth the effort.

Hope this Helps.

HO / Re: Climax replacement gears
February 02, 2011, 05:32:37 PM
I just received a set of gears, etc. but, have not tried to install them yet.  They are not a 'drop in' fit.  The new gears have a 'raised' ring of reinforcing plastic on the back- side to prevent splitting.  This makes the exposed shaft portion 'shorter' and won't fit into the truck.  If you plan to shave off the raised reinforcing ring then you will be right back where you started.  What I plan to do is remove a gear at one end and remove the bushings and grind the bushings down the same depth as the raised reinforcing rib.  The bushings are used to 'center' the gears and length isn't a problem.  When you disassemble the trucks you will see what I'm talking about.  BTW, it only took about 4 days from the time I ordered the gears until I received them with daily e-mail updates about the status of 'my order'.

HO / HO Class B, 2-truck Climax parts
December 06, 2010, 04:56:47 PM
While perusing the "parts department" last week I noticed the availability of
drive-train parts and gears, etc. for the subject loco.  I sent and E-mail ordering the parts on the 30th of November.  That afternoon, I received a
status "confirmation of receipt" E-mail.  The following day (early A.M.) I received a status "update" from 'confirmation' to 'picking/packing'.  That afternoon I received another status update from 'picking/packing' to 'shipped'.
Now all I had to do was wait for the good ol' snail-mail to arrive...got it today !
Less than a week after ordering.  Even taking into considering of the massive blizzard that hit the Northeast last week, even the USPS did a good job.
Thanks Backmann for have a top of the line parts/shipping/customer notification department.

Just finished regearing 3 out of 4 of my Shays.  WOW !  It's a lot easier than it
looks.  A high quality needle pliers is an absolute must.  The performance of
these engines can't be beat.  Super slow crawl, up steep grades, short radius
turns, and traction out the yingyang !  Don't be afraid to dive in if you haven't
already done so.  I'm glad I did.

Climax too.

Happy, happy, joy, joy.

HO / My Layout
June 29, 2009, 04:06:56 PM
Here's some pictures of my layout.  The photo quality isn't the best but you
should get a pretty good idea of my operation.  The two lower levels consist
of a folded dog-bone which provide continuous running with two sidings and
a lot of spurs, along with small turntable (big enough to turn my Shays and
Heisler) and a small yard.  The upper lever is a reverse loop.

This is the scratch-build matchstick trestle on the 'downside' of the reverse
loop.

Here's two and the stack of a third my Bachmann Shays.  I have four

This is the Woodland Scenics Moonshine still installed just above the turntable.

The fourth Bachmann Shay out to pick up a work crew.

The rest of the Bachmann Shay that you only saw the smokestack of in the
second picture.

The only other motive power I have is a Mantua 2-6-6-2.  It doesn't get
used very much...it's just too much fun watching those Shay's.  The coaling
and water tower are scratch-built items.

This is a Campbell kit of an ore mine.  I can't remember the name of the kit
but two Bachmann Ore cars are taking their turns on getting filled.

Everybody needs a junkyard.  These are Jordan kits.

Here's my scratch-built turntable, I got the plans from Model Railroader
magazine February 1987 issue

Well, that's pretty much about it, I still got a lot of scenery to go yet but I
keep getting side-tracked (pun intended).

I use ImageShack to host my pictures.  Hope you enjoy them

HO / Re: Bachmann HO scale 3 truck Shay gears

Hi Bill, put me on your list too, for the Climax and the Shay.  I recently purchased
some 'Lab Metal' and RTV mold material from Micro-Mark in hopes I could cast
some 'metal gears'  Wish me luck.

On a separate note, you can purchase Shay 'trucks' directly from Bachmann
for only $15.00 apiece.  It only takes one screw to change them out.  Electric
contacts are build right in.

Do you want address, etc off line ?

General Discussion / Re: Ordering parts
August 26, 2008, 02:12:48 PM
Thanks Rich,  now I won't have to wait around every day waiting
for the mailman.  When a package too big for my mailbox is being
delivered, they 'honk' their horn.  Then I have to run out and get
it before they get impatient and leave.  Then they put a notice in
my box and I have to drive down town to the post office to get it.
This way I can guestimate arrival time and be ready.  Thanks again.
