Rich,
By the way...  I love the "cow catcher" on your engine.  Is it scratch built?

Rich,
It is a kit that is offered by a Store near here.  If you want more info contact me off list, and I will scrounge it up.  It also came with the pieces to convert the tender to an oil burner.

HO / Cab forward wheels
January 18, 2009, 10:50:53 PM
Dear Board,
I purchased a Cab Forward front to convert a loco.  The 4 wheel truck that came in the kit has (1) 33" wheel set, and (1) wheel set that has bigger wheels.  They are plastic, and I planned on replacing with metal ones.  The problem is that I cannot find the "Bigger" set on Walthers, and do not really know what size it is.  How do I measure the wheels?  Do I measure the actual wheel, including flanges; with a caliper?  Or the the wheel, NOT including the flange?

I took a Revell Hudson Kit, that I bought, and cut the parts off the sprunes; and used those as rusted parts all over my layout.  That would be great for the engine service areas...

HO / Re: How can I make my locos run quietly?
January 10, 2009, 10:20:00 AM
I used strips of rubber that a acquired from a empty trailer.  It is black, and comes in a roll.  It is about 1/16th of an inch thick.  i just cut it to fit, and it easily stays in place, without any glue.  I am sorry I do not know what it is called, but the 25+ feet has lasted me for my whole layout.  The material is great for covering the curve sections of Woodland Scenic risers.

Have you completed the tank engine conversion?

If there are any progress pictures?   I would like to see any, that you do have.  I think you do great work, and I have learned a lot.

Both of my Lionel's do that.  When I turn on the power, they have lights, and the sound is on.  I press the loco # on, then put it in function mode; all I have to do is press #8, and the sound goes off.  Some of the lights have NEVER turned off...  I just thought that was the way it was with them.....

HO / Re: 4-8-4 Niagara Steam Loco HO derailing
December 26, 2008, 11:33:04 AM
I had a similar problem with my Niagara.  The solution was to put a steel washer on the lead truck, between the spring and the flat part of the truck.  I filed the washer, (almost square) painted it black, to conceal it.  I have had no more problems...

Hope this helps....
