HO / Re: More Canadian Rolling Stock??

As a Canadian, whose family for five generations was heavily involved in Railroading, rolling stock did not include locomotives.

Mr. Bachmann,
Further to a post by IHC360 about the lack of C.N. rolling stock, I was wondering if your company had any plans to bring out a 4-8-4 in C.N. livery.
You do the 4-8-2 Hvy. Mntn. of which C.N. only had 79 locomotives but have neglected the 4-8-4 of which they had 182.  Please consider this great loco for future production either in C.N. livery or painted/undecorated.  DCC equipped would be nice, with sound would be even better.
I really like your products now that your quality control has improved immensely.

Regards, Limey.

Oh hope not!

The Bachmann 4-8-4 looks nothing like a CNR Northern.

Take heart, the 2-10-2 was found on the CNR. Change the cab over to the enclosed type and you have a close version.

I stand by my statement.  Bachmann never made a model of T&P 2-10-4.  Yes they took a model of a Santa Fe 2-10-4 and lettered it for T&P.

Well in that case most of the steam engines made by many of the manufactures are also stand ins.

You had better start looking at brass for true models of most steamers. The rest of us will have to do with the generic versions available.

I really don't care weather it is originale or American conversions I would just like to see more Canadian rolling stock there many varieties of hoppered grain cars but a very slim choice of boxcars and flatdecks.

Some people are just in such a hurry to post, they do not read the posting.

Rolling stock - does not include locomotives.
I agree that there is not much available from Bachmann in Canadian roadnames.

Bachmann never made a model of the Texas Pacific 2-10-4.  There was a brass model made 20 years or so ago.

When you make such a statement you should know your facts. If you do not know do state that you do.

These were around for years, some in train sets as well.

HO / Re: Bachmann Mogul 2-6-0 New Release

I was notified by my on-line supplier that my units were now in and ready for shipping (once I paid of course)

I Have noted that Spectrum locomotives sometimes become scarce and that at times a replacment locomotive is given back to the owner when sent in for repairs/replacement.

So, on certain locomotives I did a bit of hoarding with the Bachmann Heavy Mountains and the Spectrum 4-6-0's. I run these locomtives a lot, they have taken a lot of use and just keep on rolling. But I want to be safe, hence the spares.

I assume you tried turning the headlight on? They are usually off when you get them, at least mine were.
I have 7 or 8 4-6-0's and have had no problems with any of them. But I did have to turn the headlight on.

I have sympathy for those who order an item and the item arrives defective. This has come up before and most vendors, not all, will not reimburse a purchaser postal charges for returning defective items.

I know of a couple of hobby shops who will not only reimburse you the cost of returning defective items, they will forward you a prepaid return box. However, when you are using discount retailers this is seldom the case.

I am curious, did the vendor sent a replacement item to you after you returned the defective item?

HO / Re: Santa Fe 2-10-4 won't handle 22" curves

Thanks to all.  Completely agree that prototypical 2-10-4 shouldn't be on 22" curve.  We all have to fudge sometimes.  I have limited space and just wanted to see the loco run sometimes.  Bachmann suggested 22" curves as minimum and this clearly is not possible so wanted to know if it was 'me' or does evryone have the same problem.  Bachmann needs to suggest realistic track arrangements.  Really wish I had a bigger layout.   Have retired this loco to the display case.  Thanks for all of your comments.

Before I retired the engine I suggest you contact Bachmann and explain your situation. As there catalogue states that this engine will run on 22" radius track. Your engine does not have enough slack in the axel length to allow it to run on 22" track.
Ask if you can trade the engine for one that does run on 22" track. Bachmann certainly could check the engine for you.

It makes no sense for you to have to shelve the engine. You could also trade that for another engine that will run on 22" track

I recently attended a garage sale and spotted what I thought was a very dirty (I mean caked on dirt) old metal Tyco steam engine.

I almost passed on it, I was surprised at just how heavy the old metal steamer was and might still be worth buying if it was cheap.

I bought the engine and took it home. A few days later I decided I would try cleaning the old engine and see if I might even get it working.  I was surprised at how much of the dirt was coming off in small clumps. As I washed the engine with a hand brush I noted on the bottom of the engine it was stamped "Japan". It cleaned up very well and that was when I discovered it was actually a brass engine.

I found out that it was from a manufacturer who was considered one of the best of the Japanese brass manufacturers. It is considered to be a very good find. I was not given a value but it is indeed a collectible engine of very good quality and not an old Tyco that I had thought it to be.

HO / Re: Tenders????
November 12, 2011, 07:29:02 PM
I picked up a half dozen Hicken tenders from the Favorite Spot on e-bay back when they were blowing them out at low prices.

I bid a bunch of them and as I remember paid $10-$12 per tender. Never did get around to converting them.

The tenders in the red packaging are not new.

The red boxes were available before the announcement that the tenders had been discontinued.

Your hobby shop simply has new old stock available. If you check the various on-line model railroad outlets you will find a few with the tenders available.

I remember someone mentioning that there was one very bad batch of 2-10-0's. Most of the run was defective and had to be replaced.

PacNo-

The various brass Santa Fe Prairies sell for pretty hefty prices reflecting, I think, a significant demand for these versatile locomotives. I'm not sure why no one offers a decent, affordable 2-6-2 these days. It seems to me that the investment in tooling would be well rewarded. Of course no one ever asks me about such things.
                     -- D

Simple.  Because the 2-6-2 wheel arrangement was not that popular in North America, Sante Fe and a couple of other roads excepted.  Logging roads don't count as they are not common carriers and were, in most cases, simply industrial lines.

The 2-6-2 may have not been popular with all of the class 1 railroads however they did find acceptance with the following Railroads
Chicago, Burlington Quincy
Great Northern
Santa Fe
Illinois Central
Milwaukee
Northern Pacific
Wabash

Remember that 1,500 were still produced.
