Would it be profiitable or do-able for WBB to produce either the engine painted with just

primer or a shell then folks could finish it in the markings they want??

I would only purchase it if I knew someone who could finish it for me. Or I could handle it myself like a Norfolk Southern black or Lehigh Valley red-brown.

It's just an idea so that folks who want the little mentioned rail lines or make up their own rail-lines.

In addition there are those out their who are enterprising and talented who would offer to paint and decal our "shells" for us making themselves a cottage industry business.

WBB could possibly sell more product and everyone is happy.

I wonder if WBB has thought about it. The part to consider in favor of the idea is that WBB

wouldn't have to commit resources on "other" lines they thought may not sell.

Would it lowere the cost of an engine for us?? I don't know only WBB could answer that . I read somewhere that we are seeing less non-powered locomotives because tha cost to produce is about the same as a powered one?!?!? I don't know if that is true or not either?

Overall I like having the Engine or rolling stock all finished and ready to go. My son and I get a real charge and a lot of "Wow-ing" when we open a brand new WBB box.
Just like when that U.P. GP-30 makes it to the house that will be worth me pestering him to get perfect scores on his spelling tests and A's in Math and Science. I let him slide on Social(ist) Studies as I supplement their history knowledge myself.

Happy St Patty's Day!!!

This is not a very big industry and I appreciate that all the manufactures have to be selective of roadnames

BUT

I can see the manufactures selling you a "shell' and some after market business custom painting and marking your shell for you.

Having been involved in plastic model airplane building, I saw so many after market companies come up with great products, acessaries, decals you name it.

There was a fella in our club that used to scratch build his own aircraft and eventually went on to form his own company and manufacture some great aircraft.

I can see this happening with this hobby too!!!

The other alternative is we have to bring more young people into this hobby.

I devote what little spare time i have to getting young boys interested. I have invited Cub Scouts to the house to run trains, we have taken field trips to train museams or train theme parks, and it does work!!

This past Christmas 3 of the boys in my 9 year old 3rd Grade class received Train Sets for Christmas 2 were Bachmann!!!!! It really is up to all of us. In this hobby we all need each other. The video games only go so far. The "bonding' with the train hobby is stronger, emotional, educational and life long.

All I can say is there are a lot of creative and innovative people in this hobby and it's a lot of fun.

Thanks for finding and sharing that Video

I am originally from Illinois and it was interesting to see a museam for Illinois Central down in Mississippi!!!!

Now if he can get in there and film it that would be icing on the cake.

Ironically, that train station that was restored looks like the one we have in Valparaiso that CN wants to tear down. If you know that person who did the video I would love to contact him to find out how they went about preserving and restoring the Train Station.

I have been soliciting Starbucks to help us and they have been receptive as they were involved in the restoration and preservation of a beautiful Roman brick Train Station built in Skokie, Illinois in 1901 !!!!  Every few weeks when I am there I make it a point to buy coffee and some skones. Recently the owner has been putting up North Shore Line prints. He also wants to put up a permanent running train and I did suggest Bachmann has Large Scale trains

Napa

Really like the layout the kids look really happy

One of the classes I teach if I get paid in cash that's my "play money'

I put in the order for the GP-30. I like that it can handle the 0-27 curves too!

In the middle of the layout I used my old 0-27 track for the Peter Wilt but we like to run the NW-2's on it we'll try the GP-30 on it too!!!!!!!

There goes the tax return refund money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That Erie F-3 sounds great.

Can you post a picture??

I like what Juniata Guy said about the "new" WBB GP-30 sounds.

Appears that WBB gave this a lot of thought. I can't wait to put an order in.

#234
A volume control or on/of switch for engine sounds would be a great add on for 2nd edition Gp-30's. We "kids" could get some track time in when its late at night and the other "kids" are in bed!!!!!!!!!!

Perhaps at the York Show in April there may be enough feedback where WBB may fine

tune the GP-30 before they release the other road names. Overall it seems like a great

engine and I plan to still get one, although some other road names will be real tempting

besides having just the UP version

Also with the group of folks on this forum I'm sure we will see ways to improve the sound as well as come up with some other ways to "fine tune" for ourselves.

More and more I am getting used to disassembling and "tinkering" and fixing for myself and actually liking it!! Not to mention I include my son to help and I see him learning!!!

Tonight we did some "weathering" on some old gondolas we found at a re-sale shop, cleaned and oiled the axles and he was running them on the layout.

Once you get past the "angst" of killing your engine and it does run and seems better than I think with some good instructions like the folks put up here I think it's all do-able!!!

Williams by Bachmann / Review of WBB "NEW" GP-30
March 10, 2013, 12:06:40 PM
It was a long work week last week so on Friday I had a an hour before I needed to be home. In need of a little "mental health" break, I stopped at Barnes and Noble and pulled the last copy of "O"-Gauge Railroading magazine. In it on page 27 is a very impressive review/article of the new WBB O-Gauge GP-30 with plenty of photograghs.
I have seen a couple  short WBB video reviews on U-Tube taken from one of the "shows" and became very interested in this type as I usually go for Steamers and F-type diesels or NW-2's. But there is some magical "alure" about this diesel and started to consider adding this especially after the WBB reps on the video described what lengths they went to for detail and trainsound realism.

Well read the article I can tell you I plan to get one in the UP markings as it is so classic.
Sounds like WBB hit a home run with this one and I wish them the best of success!!!!
