Cracker barrel still has candy for 5 cents, good stuff too. Times were simpler back then too, even model trains were.

If the sound decoder is anything like my friend's C420 with sound, then it'll be worth it. (Throttleing up in the yard or on a local would be nice... ;D )

Yea, i wanted to get 2, maybe 3 S4s, but not to spend another $20 and put a decoder in there, so I'm just gonna save up for one (maybe 2...) with sound.

i really wish i could get one of these but..... a 14 year-old has a hard time getting his hands on four hundred dollars.... give-away? hahaha! nah

Don't worry, start saving up, or you might get it for your birthday if you ask for it :) i usually start out with $100 a year spending money,  i usually end up saving up about 300 in a year... till i go to the hobby shop and they have all the good cars out... i walk out with 3-5 cars... and $50-60 dollars lighter... about 2-3 times a year  :P

To let you know, im only 15, and i still haven't got a job because of the economy. But like i said, save up. A good way to earn some extra cash is to ask around your neighborhood and see if they'll hire you to do some odd jobs, don't expect it to come fast, but in about a month, you might be more than a 1/3rd to your goal!

Did you try running it on DC yet? It ccould be that the decoder needs reset. If it runs on DC, try resetting the decoder and see what happens.

General Discussion / Re: a computer game idea

Bill, i'll keep that in mind... might come in handy

doneldon, i own railroad tycoon 3, nice game but my computer doesn't like using it past half an hour... used to know some cool tricks for it, but its been so long i forgot most of them.

Jward, i'll check that out when i get the chance... but i was focusing more on railfanning, mainly because theres a lot of games similar to running a railroad, or running trains, nothing really to railfanning.

General Discussion / a computer game idea
June 29, 2011, 11:59:54 AM
A couple days ago i was texting a friend and he complained that he didn't know what to play.... so i just said play railfanner. all i got was "...?" it was just a random thing because i happened to be railfanning. Lately, i was thinking this could actually be a good game. So far i came up with you choose an area to railfan... like horse shoe curve, Tennessee valley railroad, berea ohio, Etc. and you can either do sandbox mode (which is basically free play) or you can do missions to film/photograph trains and chase them. You get money from the pictures you take, then you can buy bikes, cars, tripods, scanners, more missions, and so on. bikes and cars would be transportation to chase trains, tripods improve your shots and scanners just help with letting you know a train is coming. Now, the thing is, the game has to be real, not random ATSF, CSX & NS all on the same line then a steam engine comes out of no where, it would be based off actual railfanning in that area. The obstacles would be speed limits, trespassing, etc.

I thought it was a good idea and thought I'd share it... who knows, maybe so computer game maker will actually work on it, and people can make their own town's railfanning, sort of like Microsoft train simulator :)

HO / Re: How good is this steam loco?
June 29, 2011, 11:42:28 AM
The 2-10-2 is an excellent engine, probably the only engine i ask to run if my steamers are not running at the CV&WS. (actually double headed a couple times with it with my 2-8-0 and once with my 4-8-4) funny part is, the owner never uses it! I've pulled 15 cars with it up a helix that's probably around 2% average.  So it could probably do the work you want it to no problem!

too big? get a smaller decoder! Got N and Z scale ones!  ;D

I remember hearing about a guy from nasa putting a DCC decoder into a thomas and having all sounds recorded including the thomas tune. Wish I rememered which decoder he used...
