Bachmann already has a 2-6-2 out

All they would have to do is add sound like they did for the Mogul

Most Class 1 railroads 2-6-2's were fairly large engines in comparison to the 2-6-0's.  They had fairly large drivers and were a bit smaller than a 4-6-2. The smaller versions used by industry and smaller railroads with the smaller drivers were the main users.

I would only be interested in 2-6-2's as used by the Class 1 Railroads and not those used by secondary roads and industry.

I do remember the Tyco/Mantua/Bachmann  versions which were the small driver versions and those released by Roundhouse/MDC which had the larger drivers and were representative of those used by the Class 01 Railroads.

HO / Spectrum 4-6-0's
January 21, 2012, 08:23:30 PM
This afternoon I addressed my to do list and found my next chore was to convert five Spectrum 4-6-0's to DCC.

I first cut the capacitors and then installed Digitrax DH163PS in the engines. Some of the 4-6-0's ran erratic when the capacitors were not cut.

These engines are both the high boiler and low boiler versions. . I also added some additional weight to each of the boilers and taped in the decoders and reattached to tender bodies to the frames.

I then tested the engines on my layouts and much to my surprise I had no problems with any of the 4 wheel lead trucks or with the wiring bundles between the tender and engine I find this surprising as with my other Spectrum 4-6-0's I was having problems (like many others had) with the wiring bundle between the engine and tender.

I checked with one of the 4-6-0's that I had previously converted and noticed that there is a difference with the wiring bundles between the engine and tender. The older 4-6-0's do not have the small rubber rings that hold the wiring bundles in place.

When did Bachmann update their wiring?

The difference is night and day I remember spending what I thought was hours bending and placing the wiring bundles in various positions before I would get these engines running properly without any derailing or other problems.

Has anyone tried cleaning the track cleaner pad? If so, did you do it as per the Bach Man's suggestion of placing it in the dishwasher? Or did you clean the pad another way?

PacNo-

I think Bachmann, and others, use two connectors when the locos
have DCC and sound because one cable with all of the needed
conductors would be too stiff to allow easy articulation between the
loco and its tender.

I am talking about the DCC and Sound version.

HO / New 2-6-0 Electrical Connections
January 16, 2012, 08:57:44 PM
I was surprised to see that the new 2-6-0 with DCC/Sound has a one piece electrical connection between the tender and locomotive.

Now if Bachmann would just change the Spectrum connections to a one piece as well. Better yet would be metal connectors but the one piece is a step up.

General Discussion / Re: Bachman service Dept.
January 12, 2012, 06:29:35 PM
I sent in a note to the service department after Christmas explaining that a new Bachmann sound engine was missing some pieces  and seemed to have extra pieces in plastic bags. Never heard back but given the time of year I imagaine they must be swampled. I will wait a few weeks and them contact them again.

At other times of the year I have contacted them and received a response very quickly.

Be patient.

HO / Re: Bachmann Sound decoder for the new 2-6-0
January 11, 2012, 06:52:41 PM
My main reason for asking about the possible availability of the new DCC/Sound decoder used in the new 2-6-0 was wondering if Bachmann was going to release the DCC/Sound decoder those of us with the old DCC ready Spectrums would possibly have available to us a board that might fit those older DCC ready Spectrum locomotives.

By the way the reason I wanted the Bachmann or the Administrator to respond was due to receiving responses based on off the cuff irrational opinions and not fact. (like a Chevy and Cadillac comparison) Duh....

Realize that Bachmann now has a new PC board combining DCC and Sound, perhaps it might have future uses other than being found in the new 2-6-0's.

CAN ANYONE GIVE ME ANY INFORMATION ON THIS LOCO.  I HAVE HAD IT SINCE BEFORE 2005

Noting that you have included the Bachmann model number, you have the first edition DCC ready engine. Model 11418 is a RI locomotive

It is my understanding that as this engine has a bulb you will need to change out the bulb for a LED should you upgrade by adding a third party DCC decoder. I am not sure if that is the same should you use a Bachmann DCC decoder.

HO / Bachmann Sound decoder for the new 2-6-0
January 10, 2012, 09:13:32 PM
Now that I know the DCC ready version of the new 2-6-0 comes with an 8 pin plug I must ask the question will BAchmann be releasing a DCC with sound board for this new 2-6-0 or will buyers of this engine who want to add DCC and sound have to go with third party sound boards to upgrade this engine to DCC and sound?

Mr Bachmann or Administrator please answer my question.

Thanks

Is there no one on this forum who bought and received the non-sound version of the new 2-6-0? If they could open the tender on their engine and tell us what type of plug is there for DCC connection.

Or the Bachmann could tell us himself as to the plug type in their new 2-6-0 DCC ready locomotive.

Not sure if this has been asked before but is the new 2-6-0 DCC plug an 8 plug as were the Spectrum DCC ready locomotives or is it something different?

I have one of the 2-6-6-2 Mantua Classics made by Model Power. I have the tender version and am very happy with its running characteristics. It was very easy to add a Digitrax DCC decoder to the 9 pin socket in the tender. There is some detail on this engine but it would be greatly enhanced with a bit more detail added.

I am very satisfied with this engine, given the price it is a bargain.

182 locomotives do not represent a widespread prototype with widespread sales appeal in model form.  The MP had about that many Spot Class consolidations (173) but I do not expect the Bach Man to ever produce one just because I want one or two.

Harriman engines are a much better sales bet.  How about it Bach Man?  How about Harriman 4-6-2's or 2-8-2's?  You already have the coal and oil Vanderbilt tenders to make the SP and UP versions.  Harriman-run (years back) SP and UP are huge selling major road names.  IC, another Harriman road, is also big and not far behind.

These are nice midsized steam engines in between the consolidation and the 4-8-2's produced in the days of yore.  You can't lose with these.  I'll be looking for them in a couple of years.

PF

I support the call for the Harriman locomotives as well.

Do not forget that they renaged from 4-4-2's to 2-6-0's and 2-6-2's as well as the 4-6-2 and 2-8-0's

Take heart, the 2-10-2 was found on the CNR. Change the cab over to the enclosed type and you have a close version.

However, I believe the USRA 2-10-2s on the CNR had Baker valve gear.

What gear do the Spectrum CNR engines have?
