I have not had issues with them, but yes, they're somewhat difficult to replaced because you have to remove the side rods from the drivers to replace them.

Let's just be patient guys. Asking constant question is not going to get the locomotive here any quicker.

That would be one way to solve the problem. I would also suggest using an N scale NMRA gauge to make sure track and wheels are at correct space apart.

It would be better if you tossed those and got new ones.

You need to get an N scale gauge and check the distance between the flanges. It will also allow you to check your track.

One of my friends has both. He likes the 4-8-2 Lt. Mountain much better as the detail is better and it's a better runner.

N / Re: Swapping Tenders for a Ten-Wheeler?

As many of you have noted, the "medium USRA" tender that comes standard on the 4-6-0 seems too large.  I have one of the "short USRA" tenders that I want to use, instead.  My 4-6-0 is DCC, so I am wondering how much work is involved with swapping the tenders.  Can I simply move the decoder from one to the other without rewiring?  Does it even fit the smaller tender?
If you get a DCC ready Spectrum Short tender, then it's a direct swap. Just take out the screws to the rear truck and the two smaller ones in the front, take off the shell, unplug the DCC plug harness from the locomotive, take off the tender drawbar, and then swap out for the new short tender.

Try installing a different decoder.

If the track is clean, then maybe the wheels are dirty on the steam locomotive. If it still won't move, then I would send it back to Bachmann.

You can get some tungsten lead and add it to the inside of the boiler.

The trains need DC power. If you hooked up the AC portion of the power pack to the track, the engine is most likely damaged.

Jack,
If you have a simple oval, then one track connection will do. If you start to add a yard, multiple switches, etc. and your layout is bigger than I would say 2X4, then you would need some more feeder wires. Some people go all out and put feeder wires to every piece of track. However, that can get tedious pretty quickly.

As far as the loose connection, then you might want to solder the wires together directly to the track. Check on youtube on how to do this.

The new Bachmann N scale 2-8-4 will ONLY come with a DCC sound decoder.
