HO / Re: GS4 4-8-4 Loco stalls exiting curve

I have the older model with dcc installed in it, the loco runs very well on straight but slows, details, and just runs poorly on any curve tighter than 42 degrees

HO / Re: Too Much Smoke Oil Killed My Engine...

I myself don't know why but I do know that my life like smoke generator and it says not to fill the unit more than 2/3s full. I don't know enough about the units, might overfilling it have caused it to overload every thing in the loco?

HO / Re: Can a DCC loco run with a non-DCC controller?

If you care to spend the money I would suggest connecting the dcc loops with a crossoer to increase operating capabilities

HO / Re: H0 Scale Norfolk & Western J...Should it Smoke?
February 18, 2009, 08:15:58 PM
Removing the shell may be hard but if you do get it the square smoke units just slide out with no wire just contacts.

Smoke requires smoke fluid so even if there's a smoke unit the wisp shouldn't be there unless it has fluid. Did the smoke have a smell. Burning plasic is a much different smell than smoke fluid. I have a bachmann GS4 that had a smoke generator so your loco may have one too but either way that smoke probably shouldn't be there. Looking down the smoke stack you should be able to see the generator with a thin tube up the middle

Wow those have dual motors, the dd40 has 2 motor but I'm amazed that switcher has them. Anyways as long as that model doesent use the chassis to directly connect the pickups to the motors and lights like the dd40 requireing a great amour of isolating and hard wiring you shouldn't have a hard time. If there isn't enough space for an HO decoder you can always use an N scale one.

HO / Re: Which has what I want?
February 09, 2009, 08:52:54 PM
I'm going to have too disagree with a previous comment. Yes smoke leaves a bad residue on the track BUT if done right it adds a whole new dimension and is very fun. If you're like me and has my layout in the garage that make track dirty every day and needs constant cleaning it's worth the work.

HO / Re: What type of HO coupler does Bachmann use?
February 09, 2009, 06:06:00 PM
As long as the couplers are nice and free the skewers work very well, at first it's abut difficult but once you get good at the twist push type action it's easy

Thanks, I found the problem in a large group of wires.

HO / Signal and switch motor system crash
February 07, 2009, 02:51:16 PM
Ok I'm In desperite need of some electrical help. Turning on power to my signal and tortoise switch machine system I've got nothing. I've tested as man spots as possible with my multimeter including the power supply all the way to all the switch machines and some signals. They all show consistent power the whole way through yet nothing is working. The power supply has multiple outlets all that have switches. The main system is all on one switch/section. Structure lighting is on another switch and that is working. So is there a short an how would I know if it is. Does a multiple meter display something for shorts? Any help would be greatly appriciated.
