Pac

Instead of messing with it, return it to service for a replacement.

Jerry

There is no lifetime warranty on track, it is only 30 days and although only used recently the switch is over a year old. Bought it when I started to stockpile items for my future layout.

PacNo-

No, and I've never heard of anyone needing to do so on RTR turnouts, either.

Just my luck to get one out of gage, hope the batch was not too large. Can not run anything through without derailing.

Has anyone on this site every had to shim a guardrail?

The problem with catering to novices only is that the veterans aren't getting the full-featured items they want.  There are other people making full featured and fully detailed steam engines, but only large ones right now .  Sooner or later they'll notice the void once filled by Spectrum small steam engines and fill it.  I'll be there when they do. Unless it's a PRR engine  :o :D ;D

PF

Yes, at about three times the price.

Glue in plastic shims?

Has no one tried to move the quardrail closer to the stock rail?

I am wondering if I pried out the quardrail and smoothed the base area under the quardrail if I could glue the quardrail in place at the proper location.

I am somewhat surprised to find that the quardrail was so far out of place, I can not help but wonder if there was a batch of these with the guard rail positioned too far away from the stock rail?

Anyway, I will have to attempt to either glue in a shim as advised or to move the existing quardrail, as the turnout is useless as it is now. I have a number of ez turnouts that I have yet to use, hopefully they are all in gage.

Strange that it was the small steamers that were still in service as steam engines were being replaced.

CN and CPR used a number of 4-6-0's during the phase out period as well. In a number of provinces the last steam engines ran was a 4-6-0,  and a few 2-6-0's.

I have been having problems with a couple of Bachmann #6 Switch or actually a few of them.

Using a NMRA template gage on these switches I find that the guard rails are too far from the stock rails.

I am not having any problems with the locomotives going straight through the switch, but am having lots of problems if I run the locomotive through the switch in a turn. The trailing trucks or the tender trucks derail, The gage shows the gap between the stock rail and guard rail is too large.

How can one close the gap distance? As these are n/s rails on plastic it appears heat would not work, are there any proven ways to move the guard rail closer to the stock rail.

Yardmaster

I was surprised that after your last comments that this thread was not locked.

You certainly explained this is a lower-cost unit and that there is a unit that does not have the sound unit installed allowing the user to install what ever type of sound decoder they want.

There is nothing more anyone can do.

I wish Bachmann had been a bit more observant by not hiding the screw that holds the tender body to the frame.

Snap fit lugs on the back of the tender are great but the hidden screw on the front.

I sure do like the holder for the wiring on the 2-6-0. Wish the spectrum models had the same setup rather than having to fiddle and trial and error with the position of the wiring.

I guess if I find a piece of EZ track with a problem, I'll just replace it.

Pops-

I suggest that out-of-gauge EZTrack should be replaced by Bachmann, not you!

                                                                                                      -- D

You should check the EZ track right away, if you stockpile a bunch of track for later use you will likely be over the 30day period that applies to EZ Track and  switches.

Check out this link.

The tender was modified. Check the pictures it was actually quite easy.

Not everyone is like you, geared steam.  Despite not liking to solder and do electrical and mechanical work on engines, I do not think I am less of a "modeler" than you.  I prefer building structures and scenery.  And running a railroad realistically.  And besides, this pastime is called "model railroading" (which should emphasize "operating trains realistically"), it is not "soldering model electronics". I'm always amused by those who get so deep into that kind of stuff they forget that running a train is the objective of doing the work in the first place.

I'd say people that really prefer to do that kind of work ought to be building radio or computer kits, and quit thinking less of those who share their belief that electronic work has to be a primary component of this pastime and is a necessary measuring stick of competence.

I know I'm on the losing end of Bachmann's new direction that caters toward the low end and leaves guys in the middle like me out.  So be it.  Nothing stays the same, and things don't always go for the best for everyone.

Most of you folks appear to like things the way they are now, I don't.  The end.

HO / Re: Installing Sound for Beginners, Like me!

You should have placed your speaker in a baffle case. They are cheap and the baffle will enhance the quaility of sound.

Well, Rich, that's probably me you are talking about that rants about "Sound Value".

If I'm sorry to be hard to please, but I've been around steam engines too much to truly be happy with half of a sound system.  I can afford the way it was before and just would rather pay for a full system then buy a silent cheapy, then to get sound have to spend essentially twice as much as I did before to get sound into the engine.  PF

Then follow up on your suggestions. Buy the DCC ready versions and have someone intall a full featured sound decoder and speakers and stop posting your cojmplaints.

I find that when I am having any problems with the EZ turnouts that it is because the turnouts were not absolutely level. I found that the few problems turnouts were ever so slightly skewed, once leveled the turnouts work fine. I was surprised that a turnout would appear to be level and when checked it would be out ever so slightly. Finicky to say the least.

I have only used the #6 turnouts on my layout with the exception of my mine and logging operations where I am using Shays, Climax and Heisler engines,
