Hi Ray,

Didn't realize it was you. I am not disputing anyones data base or facts. But I have seen in old photos in my friend's collection before he died something that looked just like a water tender coupled behind a 2-6-0 I am not for sure of the date and I know the Columbus and Greenvile has had a old tender used as a sand car that they all claim came off the ICRR and it is very small compared to the cisterns the IC built.

I would like to see some of those photos are they on line? I am still learning myself on IC steam and Y&MV steamers thanks to the IC group and Robert Tomb I am thinking of sending him a 4-8-2 from Bachmann and letting him work on it for me I know it wont be perfect but closer than what I have now in HO.

Didn't mean to butt heads with a fellow ICRR modeler.

Hi Orson,

I have seen photos of the homebuilt ICRR water tenders used here in the Mississippi Delta on the Y&MV and most of them were old coal tenders not the cisterns which  I have also seen photos of and in one I do remember seeing the aux tender number matching the locomotive number from a retired ICRR conductors own photos. I wish he was still alive and I had access to his many photos of the southern end of the ICRR and Y&MV.

Hi Gene it might have been the Y&MV through Alexandria which was a line the ICRR owned here in MS and LA. I dont run Big Boys either just heavy IC Mountains 2-6-0s a N&W J 4-8-4 and a 0-6-0 plus alot of dismals on my Y&MV.

just remember the bigger the steamer the bigger the switch is needed. I have mostly #4 and #6's on my line. I do have ancient brass Atlas #8s with solid brass frogs and hand spiked ties from the 1960s still in the boxes with the $1.35 price tag and a #4 switch kit was 69 cents.

Hi Lanny,

The top two photos do look like Harriman types to me as well and true the 3rd  one does have that hump in the boiler. I think any of the three would be a good choice.

:D Wonderful model of the Flying Scotsman. I knew he was going to York awhile back my uncle in Grimsby UK keeps me updated, I was very impressed with the National Railway Museum at York. My Uncle had to drag me away especially when I saw the huge Chinese Mikado built in Warrington England. he has given almost 5,000 pounds in our names for her restoration and I hope if my health lets me to return again one day to see the ole boy in all his glory.

To be honest I don't know which was worse him trying to drag me away from York or the Naval Base at Portsmouth and HMS VICTORY and HMS WARRIOR in all it was a grand month in 2001 and the Fish N Chips I do miss greatly.

Well it depends on if your lying again or telling the truth. I know Kadee has never made such couplersI have been buying their products since 1985 yes a year long before you were born. I can easily answer that question by sending Sam a Email at Kadee.

Umm Plasser,

Kadee has never made such a coupler, why would they care if knuckles and horn hooks worked together when their business depends on hobbyists swapping over to better couplers in the first place. Kadee does make a coupler for truck mounting but not one that will couple to both knuckles and horn hooks.

LOL Gene, I keep having flash backs to high school and the Canterberry (SP) Tales and old English days. Where once a week we spent English class speaking old English. Just imagine 40 Southern boys and girls and a English Teacher from Maine.

Now to Plasser, if your going to lie and keep on doing it learn to keep your facts straight, but I prefer the truth always over a lie. IF you can afford a $400.00 locomotive then quit asking if I have a old Bachmann 4-8-4 because I am scraping by on SSI and I can't afford $400.00 locomotives unless it is a 3 truck 55 ton shay in 1:20.3

The Bachmann Water tender is a N&W prototype, the ones I have seen for the UP had rounded ends on them if I remember correctly.

Lanny ICRR's water tenders were basically old locomotive tenders so they varied all over the system. I have seen photos of some that looked like they came off of old 2-6-0s and some huge ones from 2-10-2's most of them did have a number on the side with a X in front of it if I remember correctly and some of them carried the same number as the locomotive they belonged too.I remember seeing in a book (forgot the title) of a ICRR 2500 class with a water tender numbered same as the locomotive. How common this was I have no clue.

General Discussion / Removing dust from models
March 13, 2007, 08:53:39 PM
Hi Guys,

I was looking over some of my older less run models and model battleships in my display case and was wondering what is the best way to remove the fine dust that builds up on them? I have tried compressed air from a can in the past it gets some of it but not all same with small paint brushes. Any good suggestions out there?

thanks

Stephen
