HO / Re: returning to HO

Few parts if any and  no online information available from Bachmann for that old locomotive.

Click Here from hoseeker.net website - this maybe the same or similar to the locomotive you have.

A DCC decoder can be installed in almost any HO locomotive that runs well if you have the mechanical and electrical aptitude. However,  the Bachmann locomotive you have is a very poor candidate to equip with a DCC decoder.   Time and money better spent purchasing a factory equipped DCC (with sound if you prefer) locomotive.

Click Here to see what is required for a Bachmann HO DC  2-8-0 that was designed and manufactured with conversion to DCC in mind.  Use as general information as the decoder and speaker used have been discontinued and replaced with an updated version.

. . . My question, after the put on all four insulating joiners, can't I just run a new power lead to the now dead section of track (the loop), instead of using the expensive reversing modules?

Click Here the information should help you understand why what you are think will not work.

You failed to state if you are using DCC or DC power on track.

Most automatic reverse loop modules work only with DCC.

You can use a much lower cost DPDT toggle switch for either DC or DCC to manually control the track polarity

The roof fittings snap around six tabs. The six tabs are located along the top of body shell, three on each long side.

Good luck removing the roof without damage to the roof or the shell. No replacement shell or roof currently available.

General Discussion / Re: E-Z Control Dynamis 36505
February 20, 2020, 12:36:34 AM
Q: Will this unit handle multiple hand-held control units or do I need to upgrade?

A: Adding the Dynamis ProBox (item # 36508) to the Dynamis will add three;  thus support up to a total of four wireless Dynamis handsets'

Q: Also, how many locos will it reasonably handle?

A: Around five recent production HO locomotives can be expected to draw less than the 2.5 amps the Dynamis system provides.

Q: I assume a power booster will allow MORE locos to be controlled.

A: Adding an E-Z Command 5 Amp Power Booster (item# 44910) will provide a DCC system with a total of five amps.

Bachmann Dynamis Ultima DCC Control System  sold by Bachmann Europe released a few years ago combines the features of Dynamis with a ProBox and has more features.

An aside for those interested, willing to make time and put forth the effort.

Caveat -  Reading comprehension and retention is required.

Not all DCC systems have the option to program a CV by its bits. Even those that do,  the preferred practice the majority of the time is to determine the CV value and use it.  That way you know what to expect when a value is entered into the CV.

SoundTraxx has one of the better CV Programming Tutorial repeated in each of its decoder User's Guide.

Example, Click Here for SoundTraxx Tsunami2 Digital Sound Decoder Steam User's Guide. The CV Programming Tutorial starts on page 11

The SoundTraxx decoder Technical Reference contains the CV description and its Bit information.

General Discussion / Re: S4 Diesel directional lighting
February 10, 2020, 12:12:14 PM
For directional lighting (on/off)

program
CV 33 = 1
CV 34 = 2
CV 49 = 129
CV 50 = 129

CV 30 is not relevant for lighting but make sure its value is 0 (the factory default value)

The fuel in the tender supposed to be wood stacked on end so it takes less space. And yes, it's very plasticy looking.

Terry,

An aside ---

Click Here for video segment  -- just in case you want to do more to locomotive.  Part of the headlight flicker seen is due to the video frame rate.

The E-Z Command Control Center was upgraded several years ago adding a master On/Off switch on the underside.

scroll to page 2, figure 7

A question regarding if there were additional changes made when the On/Off switch was added was stonewalled.
