HO / Re: DCC for 4-8-2 Heavy Mountain

I  have a Hvy Mtn and installed a sound system. Before you start  fritzing with it, make sure you write down, somewhere, on which side is the wheel insulator instqalled in the tender truck, front and back. Take a look at the paper work and it will show where the screws are to remove the shell of the tender ( depending on tender ) and note in the paperwork where pin 1 is. You will have to remove the dummy plug. The problem i have with the beast is running fast around corner at the curve-straight junction. The front truck sometimes comes off the track ( 22 inch R curves  ) causing the dcc system to reboot It is ok once you put the locomotive back on the track.

Remember the BachMann said "perfect  tracks. Make sure all the railjoiners are tight and the tops of the rails match perfectly. in my personal experience i have had to sand smooth the joints in mote than one place.

the more I look at it, the more i like the locomotive. I replaced the simulated coal load on the tender with the real wood load. looks so cool.. just like the one i saw in a western movie about stealing gold from a train.  Probably easier to throw logs in the burner than shoveling coal.

i don't know if the assemblers build the locomotive looking at a drawing or at a manufacturing sequence plan. If the dwg is incorrect, you are getting an incorrect locomotive until quality control catches up. The drawing clearly shows the insulator on the same side on both trucks. The original poster may have gotten one of the early machines

nice loooking set but it appears on the surface the seller is in the United States but in actuality he is selling out of Canada. i don't want to deal with the added charges of international shipping and dollar exchange.

When i examined the detailed parts drawings, i notice the tender wheels were installed with the same components mounted exactly the same for both front truck and rear truck. I thought it was a drawing error but now with this post, it might be something bigger. I just got mine and if it does the same thing yours does,. i am swapping wheels.

You are correct. I just looked at those coaches and they would indeed look not only correct but also aesthetic. However I can only find them in N gauge. Bummer. or as the brits would say, bloody bummer.

HO / 4-4-0

Just got my 4-4-0 Richmond DCC equipped. I thought it was odd the programming is so simple, except for F10 and F1 you have to do nothing. At least that is what the manual with the beast indicates. i will run it tomorrow. I did remove all the foam pieces under the truck.

Comes in handy to know this stuff when you buy rolling stock on ebay and you have to figure out what all this means.
