Chuck,
As far as body mounted couplers, my Bachmann Davenport with ore cars works fine on my 15" radius curves.

Kevin,
Thank you very much for the complete and informative response regarding the finishing of your locomotives.  This will be very helpful on mine and others projects.
Take care.

Kevin,
Great job and excellent info on your website.  One thing I'd like to know, what is the "color" and how did you paint it?
Thanks,
Chuck

Bill,
Those photos that you posted for me back in February had some of the Hubley 1/20th vehicles on them.  Those are the one that I emailed you. I still haven't been able to successfully transfer pix from photobucket to this site.
In case anybody's interested, my 15" radius curves are still working fine.

Bill,
For automobiles, I use the Hubley 1/20 scale metal car kits.  They are from the 1915's thru the 1930's and are fun to build and paint.  Right now there are 28 listed on Ebay priced from $29 up.
Happy Bachmanning!

General Discussion / Re: Favorite Train Movies

I am surprised there's not more mention of "The Station Agent".
There is trainwatching, train chasing, the main character lives in a railroad station and at the beginning he is working in a Model Railroading store!
Check it out.
Chuck
Also, the star of the movie plays Tyrion on HBO's popular "Game Of Thrones".

Large / Re: 25 year old this year.. Bachmann Big Haulers

Joe,
Am looking at my instruction manual dated 1988.  On the cover is printed "Bachmann's Big Hauler Electric Train Set".  I bought two of them in 1988, still have one and it runs fine.

The 36 ton shay was the first generation (81000 series) second generation, with better trucks was labeled 38 ton (82000) series.
I would recommend you install a set of the Bachmann replacement motorized trucks, if Bachmann doesn't have them, try Trainworld or Ebay.

Kevin, I question your statement "large scale railroading is a minority pursuit within the scale"
My first large scale indoor layout was constructed in 1972, 40 years ago (25 years ago one of my layouts was featured in Narrow gauge and Short Line Gazzette).
Over the years I have talked with many large scale model railroaders (train shows, conventions, etc.) and it seems to run two to one that their modeling/layouts are all indoors.
"Large scale railroading" also includes dioramas, Gn15 layouts, etc.
This is why I espouse more equipment configured for tight radiuses. Of course it does not look prototypical, but then again, if not configured for minimum radii, we can be losing perspective members in our hobby!
Just my humble opinion.

I disagree with Skarloey.
Great video.
Great layout.
Great locomotive!
