General Discussion / Re: BACHMANN E-Z DCC COMMAND

our you can just splice the wires from one end to the other   or even best  tap on each wire  so you have 2  different connections to each style of track.  dave

General Discussion / Re: Analog Hookup for EZ Command

the 44212    does work    the other one wont.            once you get that  2 persons  can operate   but only 1 can operate dcc  locos    you can have up to 11 units controlled     i started out this way  and added the 5 amp  booster to it also.       i think its the only system that can operate both dcc and dc on the same track.     i keep mind handy to do some locos that are to hard to put to dcc.      disadvantage  dont let you anolog set on the track  without using it  it might burn out the motor.     have fun with it   i sure did     Dave

HO / Re: parts sold out gs 4-8-4

i did look at all those steam they had  and different part numbers  or just different color scheme.
i do have and area where i have broken busted up old tyco /bachmann steams/ collector pancake motors    maybe even to many of those old timers i played with 40 years ago . worthless  to others  but great for a museum.   i did just put in back in a box for now and i hooked up the freedom steam without sound .   and  i do use DCC on everything   and modifie alot of old tycos  F7  to the modern bachmanns  which isnt very hard at all.  rock island ,southern pacific ,midnight special, spirit of 76. and some others that i used when i was younger .  i do have a big pile of Fb shells of bachmann from the 8 wheel drive that i bought from ebay for a low price.    i was glad to bring back some of my old locos to be able to pull and be DCC

HO / parts sold out gs 4-8-4
September 26, 2012, 03:47:28 AM
i have the SP 4-8-4  which broke a rod  and wheel sliped on gear wheel .   asking are they restocking this. its sold out  on your parts list   Chassis w/Drive Wheel Assy (GS4 4-8-4) (HO Scale).  i bought it at a local place that sells bachman products and havent found the reciept yet to have warranty work  and hate to do that since i added a sound decoder to the tender .  any ideas what to do   send it back for the warranty without tender .  i can just fix it myself if i had the part      hate for me to put that passager train on a side rail for to long or just go ahead and box it up till i can get a part    any ideas anyone

HO / Re: powering tender wheels

Who cares about warranty?  We're modellers, we fix things ourselves.

just what i do        i havent sent anything in yet  i have asked for help on  one athearn steam  to figure out how to take it out and replace a gear on the wheel shaft which he did for me ( dont have the gear puller for that yet).   i do like working on them myself and making a mistake here and there  but dont follow it on the next project  learn by doing  and going blind at the same time.  and i do make my living being a building engineer doing repairs on all equipment  that has to do with water ,gas ,electricity high efficent biolers  and so on  im still in some learnning curves   thats why i asked if it void the warranty.  even at my work sometimes its better to let the factory mess with something than do something myself.      also i liked the pickups  and was very good thinking using something i have few extra of to solve what i wanted to do to to lite up a caboose and even xmas light a few cars and stuff for xmas at a low cost but at modellers way of doing it .    i got my #50 drill bit , my #2-56x3/8 screws,#2-56 tap  a silver series caboose i paid $.01  on ebay  and some kadee coupler center springs. now just finding the right time to try this and adding to my layout. ;D

sure like how those pick-ups are made for the tender    i was wanting to add lights to a caboose  and thats the answer  or any other pick up    a sound decoder in a box car without connecting a wire between a unit and the car.   i have a 2 -10-0  deccapod/sound  on one switch it looses power and i think i need to look at it also to add more wheels with power to the tracks .    does that void the warranty on the bachmann line?

HO / Re: McKinley Explorer passenger car couplers
September 13, 2012, 10:16:37 PM
Try  kadee   #119   couplers       they are a shelf coupler    and i use these on all my longer cars   as well as my McKinley  that i run 14 cars  up a grade    no promblem after installing those  .  biggist promblem is that one car tips they all seem to follow and hard to uncouple without the tool .    try some of those   i put them on my engines also which i use the shelf coupler #118.        i love that train

General Discussion / Re: reciever with short wires
September 09, 2012, 06:35:55 PM
thanks for you reply      its the IR receivers  i had to rewrite my post after it timed out  and i tried to specific    I'm hoping this brings great minds togather  and come up with some solutions .      it would of been nice if bachmann had extension cords 12 ft long and how many you can have in a row   and heres another question  is all the IR receivers hooked in parallel in the pro box  with out me tearing it apart to see   so if i ran one cable  and put multiple IR receivers to them  less wire less drop of signal.  i could use 8 in just one room to have great control    i think i outgrew the system  but dont have a budget to change  from the bachmann stuff (which i like alot of)  i do need to learn CV's yet  i whished i had someone right there to get me through some of it .    i use the ez command to change direction of a loco so there not all facing one direction,  but the sound locos wont accept it .   i do have great power to the tracks  every 8 ft has a connection to the power buss 16 awg extension cords  no slow downs for that and keeps good dcc signal on tracks i noticed that at the frist and a ez cure .    well  its time to get some loads and people to there distination on my railroad  without casualties.

General Discussion / reciever with short wires
September 09, 2012, 05:07:55 PM
new to the group and tell alot of you thanks for the info i have read on some issues to help me out  and learn . :)
heres the questions .
#1   how long can a wire be extended and what size wire    5 conductor  or backmann could make a extension plug and play with how many you can add
#2   can i add more than just 4 recievers or is there a booster for recievers to have 8
#3 has anyone tried to use a transmitter reciever used in home theator systems for hidden componets .

i have the dynammis +pro + 5 amp booster   around 400 ft of main track running the out edges of three rooms  which  would make it around a 30ftx12 ft .  i run long trains with muliple units to pull  with 6 trains running at the same time   sometimes more with  steam locos . ive been doing this for 3 years now  time to solve some little issues .  i allso been studing the 5 amp booster thread   i allmost ready to add my second 5 amp booster and its not looking good from what i read   was thinking of running one on service and one on main when i build on my second level when i win the lottery
