Alright, this has gotten a little off the rails

Was that really only a year ago? Feels like it was 6, before I lived in Georgia. I'm mixing up two different events in my Head. In any event, yes, it was his choice.

Regarding the files, since it was just this locomotive and this truck is so light, it would not surprise me if a small defect could be causing it. It does not come off on other turnouts but that does not rule out a truck issue. And hey, even if the files didn't work, having a set of them is certainly a good idea!

also, did I say state fair? Wow... I meat Worlds Fair obviously, the 1939 one. The thing was too large for most of the PRR's routes so it had to serve on just one.

I'd heard that len! Funny Stuff. Kinda reminds me of the big locomotive Penn built for the state fair that was completely unusable.

Jbrock, I'll be honest, I completely forgot about that video with the two kids until now. I've said a lot of things when I was younger that I regret, and while my opinion of their video may have been right or wrong, who's to say, My response was aggressive and, really unnecessary for a video by two kids. I've chosen to ignore a lot from before when I really matured.

Regarding the cost of this persons video, those are the numbers I came up with, maybe they were off but either way, my point about waste stands true. I've liked a lot of his work, I think I'm allowed to voice my opinions. He has done giveaways before. as for the files, to be honest, It still hasn't fixed the truck jumping the track so either I filed the wrong part or it is something else causing it. I'll get around to looking into it more at a later date, for now I just have the SY move around my tiny yard setting up trains.

I've seen several neat things from this person. That said, this was... wasteful. If he didn't like it, he could sell it or even give it away. He compared it to the overland and MTH models, which are ~3* ad ~5-6 times the cost of the Bachmann one.

if it really bothers you, I'd consider a decoder reset, it is always my first action before doing maintenance as sometimes that  fixes issues.

Interesting Information, Was unaware that Slugs were ever used "on the road"

As always, looks great Roger. I'm curious, were those photos taken on the new or old GER?

As Roger stated, Shays, Heislers, and Climaxs are all different types of geared locomotives which were known for hight pulling power at low speeds.

Bachmann has, at various points produced 2 and three truck variants of both shays and climaxs as I recall however I do not believe they have ever made a heisler. I think Riverossi did though.

edit: To answer your question, Heislers were simply less common. That is my guess at least.

the 2-10-0 is one of my favorite locomotives bachmann has produced, beautiful. Shame that they just replace it with something else though understandable. As much as I love it, it has a myriad of issues. I have one with sound serving on my layout right now and occasionally I've seen that stalling you mentioned though it is rare. I've had to do 3 decoder resets over the 8 months or so I've owned it. But that pales to the first generation ones, Half don't work right, often the copper pickup plate is bowed causing a short. The wires had the standard problems and often the drive would jam up. I agree completely that this needs a redesign.
?
Oh, did I forget to mention the nightmare that is this locomotive's disassembly?

I used a 2 inch piece to allow for a lake bed and small dips in land but it all depends on what you want, as does most of the hobby.

HO / Re: Suggestion for #5 "Yard" Turnout
February 15, 2015, 10:47:28 PM
Though I've not chosen to undertake the task, there is no reason you could not modify ez track and shorten it. just make sure to measure correctly and be VERY careful, and It would probably work fine. Of course you risk destroying a 25+ dollar turnout if you mess up. If you intend to do so, I'd recommend practicing on a spare piece of track like a straight you have lying around.

February 15, 2015, 06:21:03 PM
well, HD had em but I found a better price on a similar set on Amazon so I'll just wait for them to get here in a few days. in the mean time, I need to resolve the issue with my 2-10-0's lead truck hopping (shouldn't be too hard, I think it just needs some adjustment) and figure out how to extract the screw from the back of the 2-8-0 that got stripped. Plenty to do! I'll update the if the files work I suppose.

Since I need to go to home depot tomorrow anyway to pick something up, I'll ask about jewelers files. I hope that can fix it as, as I have stated many times, the SY it my favorite Locomotive and I hate that this little thing cases problems but as you can probably imagine, one little derailment can cause bigger problems.

So I should file the inside of the point, thinning the rail?. I don't have jewelers files but I do have a larger file, would that work? I don't posses a gauge but It is not like I could replace the truck anyway and it has no issue over all the other turnouts on my layout.

HO / Any Ideas regarding turnout and trailing truck
February 14, 2015, 12:24:37 AM
Hello, so, when passing over a turnout on my layout, the trailing truck on my SY 2-8-2 derails. It is the only thing that does. I'm not suprised as it has always been more sensitive to issues given that it has little pressure downwards. That said, Something is still wrong that it comes off at taht same point every time. I've looked very close and found that at a point almost to the end of the points, the truck lifts and the wheels ride the rail before dropping off as seen below:

I do not see any issue with the turnout but I thought I'd ask if anybody more experienced saw anything. Here is the turnout empty:

which turnout is it? and is the locomotive taking the divergent route? Sometimes, on larger locomotives, they can be lifted off the rails when pushing through a curve that is too tight and that could cause a short. I don't know the minimum radius of the GG1 but I'd guess it's 22.
