i Was going to make modern street lights sort of like yours  jonathan     use the out pole as one conductor and run one wire to a led.     also i thought of using those c-3 led christmas lights with the plastic covers smooth shape for the base cutting half of it out or just using a wheel of a box car .   cut tube long ways at lamp end and flatten a little to give shape of a reflector.    and of coarse led lights to light it .   i do really like yours and its a budget cutter which makes it better .    Dave

FRED Salt lake city Utah   1 1/2 hr drive from there north.   if you ever do go   Ogden has a train museum plus a browning arms and a old car .   Ogden has the steam 833 4-8-4  just like the 844 with out the outer skins (removed asbestos) and a rare turbine i think loco 26 called the bird cooker,  and allot of history of the union pacific  and lots of other train stuff .  Ogden was a main station from ohmaha to Sacramento  like the big boy 4-8-8-4 and those unusual big locos of gas and diesel

  web pages      http://theunionstation.org/index.php/museums-2/

and a great airforce museums

100 ohm    im using 4.5 volt leds with a 4.5 volt supply  which is all found in the christmas stuff .    i decreases the brightness down just a little with 1oo ohms, im going to do a shack  thinking using 200 ohms or even more  and putting a 3 volt flaming led candle inside so they can stay warm  the led flickers  and orange color  great for a burnning building or even making a hotwheeled box car.  what i like about leds on the string  is that its easy to wire since they are wired in parallel so just snipped off what you need and solder wires to extend them to your power source drill a small hole in building push fro inside out and glue.   i did add covers on one building from cutting plastic black tube and directs the light down not out( works good to light a BIIL BOARD also from the ground)
what i havent tried yet is relighting passager cars with them  and adding a red led to the rear car for a tail light.  right now im relighting the train yard area with these  i allready have lights but in the inside of the buildings  i needed to add wallpacks to them so it lights other areas some.      and OSHA/ power companies with lighting rebates has made changes to the regulations on outside lighting so we all know when they talk we have to getter done.  imagination is the key that why i like to read others post and try things out myself to bring in new ideas to make everyones layout even more great.    DAve

I own one also     yes it runs slower compared to the 2-8-8-2  and alot of others.     personally i like running steam at lower speeds and if they have sound  even better     Dave

from Utah    the golden spike is going to have a steam festival here in a week or 2 .   those locos that were in that movie  are going to be blowing off some steam in our winter climate .       location is golden spike park .  which is a few miles away from where the golden spike was driven at promontory which is at the north end of the great salt lake .   and the winter crows will be hanging around also.    Dave

Since the John Deere is my type of collections and have looked at Bachmanns collector  F7a  with  B unit.   i never bought the bachmanns john deere set i have them with another manufacture .    the tender is a B unit  which is a dummy loco .   suggest that you buy another motorized loco and change the shell over.       once you have done that you can buy tractors thats to scale and put them on flat cars  to add to your train.     Ebay is the place to find them and they still have plenty to get  also they have box cars with john deere logos and many different locos.     i have  a 4-8-8-4 ,4-6-6-4, mikatos, f7a f7b, cabooses ,box cars, flat cars ,tankers, over 100 tractors all with the john deere  logos.  i even have a john deere dealership to trade that international harvestor tractor in  for a green one .    in life i have a 52 John Deere b Tractor that My dad and i restored before he passed away it was hes dream to own a tractor he worked when he was younger. and i have a love of all tractors another hobby i have       DAve

Thanks for your help   i was'nt sure what pushed and pulled those cars.   like a ph59 what i was thinking.     but did find this      GM Demonstrator #100 - GP7 - DCC Sound Value  which i dont own but might look good with it .   i do have a RF Hudson that i just remembered i have  not  been able to find B units for  so for now i think ill go with that.    i needed something to compete with my front runner  so i can have two rail runners at the same time with several stops .   DAve
