BOB,

If it helps any, you're not alone in getting lost in the Bachmann Black hole of Service.  I sent a DCC Ready Russian Decapod Steam locomotive and tender in for repairs.  This was two weeks after Christmas.  The Russian was a Christmas gift.

Any time I call - either toll free or on my own dime - I am assured they received it and it will take 6 to 8 weeks to repair.  I sent it in after seeing a few whiffs of smoke coming from the tender.

Christmas must be a magical time a Bachmanns.

I wil call again on Monday, like last week.

If you update / upgrade using Soundtraxx Tsunami:

Note that a Bachmann with DCC Onboard that is Tsunami converted to add Sound will need CV29 set to a value that will allow both DC and DCC control of the locomotive.

Check this out, off topic but interesting.[/i]

I'll follow you off topic a bit farther Bob.  The two links you had posted briefly indicates for $84.00 + s/h + speaker enclosure you could have DCC and Sound for an Athearn diesel.

Do you see any reason why it won't work with any other mfgr's diesels if you can make it fit?  I don't mean to include every diesel like old Tycos or $14.99 Model Powers (and others) but how about most any diesel with a circuit board in it?

when will Bachmann produce sounds  for diesel locomotives?[/i]

Hate to answer a question with a question but do you mean add sound to their decoders for diesel locomotives?  That is a good question.

Mr. Bach-man?

HO / Re: Spectrum GP-30 DCC Ready?

I'm not Mr. Bachmann but every Spectrum GP30 I see listed here from Bachmann has DCC Onboard for $69.00.  It doesn't have Sound but it is DCC equipped.

HO / What are these called and are they available?
April 28, 2009, 08:52:53 PM

What is this type motor called and are they available at a reasonable price?  This is an old GP38 (I think) I got off ebay - it lasted about a month before the gears (?) or whatever drives the truck & wheelset stripped out.

Thanks-

Brad,

A few technical questions if I may.

What are you using to power your turnouts - are they Atlas all-in-one or do you have Tortoise driven turnouts / switches?  Are they DCC controlled at the time?

Did you use any Flex-Track?

Did you use Code 100 or 83 track?  (I have too much of each not to plan on using both and will use 100 to 83 conversion sections and separate 100 loops.)

Do you have a MRR club around you close?

You've done a beautiful job - keep us posted on how you're doing.

Can you post any pictures?  Google "440-X002" turns up a couple hints of a LifeLike and GP38 or GP38-2.

That is great.  I've been looking at layouts on youtube - as good and/or better than most I've seen.

Chuck-

Congratulations on your noisy Steam Loco.  I only put a 1" dia. round in my Light Steam 2-10-2, it needs the oval with more bass.  I'll do that next time I order.  The problem I have now is I wan't to pick up every innexpensive loco I see and add DCC and sound then I remember it costs $100+ to do so.

I need to get serious on my newest layout & get it finished.  It's hard for me to get computer time, train time and grab some assistance from a family member to do something in getting this 4x8 finished so I can start on a 4x4 that will attach / detach to it.

Have a ball,
Rick

I don't know about your switcher but I have a Broadway Blueline Steam Loco w/ DCC & Sound.  It worked ok on the EZ Command as far as changing the address from 3 and is doing ok on my Dynamis system.  Bell and horn react to button 2 and 3 that I know of.  Steam loco sounds work ok.  This was purchased with DCC & sound - not added on.

Thanks fellas!  I saw my Walthers catalog today but haven't taken a look at it yet.

SF - thanks for the article - it helps me understand Jim's instructions.  I hope I can get someone here on this farm to help me at least try to mold & cast.

Thanks again,
Rick
