Dear All,

I would double check the track counts on the Caboose Hobbies layouts before ordering track.

22"R needs 16 curves per circle.

The first line of the first layout shown asks for only 8 curves.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Joe Satnik

Joe,

I used two of those diagrams(the second and the last) as basis for my two layouts. It has been more than two years ago,
but as I remember, I did not use the counts printed, but used the printed layout. Even then I think I had to adjust the final track counts.

I used brown paper cut to my table size to draw out a full size diagram by using actual sections of EZ track as guides. I was rebuilding
rather than starting from scratch, so I had sections of track to work with. Then I just ordered the track that I was short.

This page has some basic track plans for Bachmann track.

I didn't know that. Every piece of curved EZ track that I have does have that information on the back.

There should be a square embossed box on the underside of the track.
The top line is "Bachmann"
Read bottom line. It should be something like HO  18" R  30

The 18" R means it is 18 inch radius curve track and the 30 is the degrees of a full circle.
So 15" R is 15 inch radius, 22"R is 22 inch radius, 26" R is 26 inch radius, etc.

If you divide the number following the R into 360, it should give you the number of sections
of track required to complete a full circle, or into 180 should give you the number of sections
required  to complete one end(180degrees) of an oval.
Hope this helps.

Oh, they made them alright.

http://www.ho-scaletrains.net/bachmannhoscalelocomotives/id51.html

This is in a Bachmann resource site.

As to getting the PC board, I would call Bachmann Service and ask them.

You might be forced in to buying another loco just to get the part. Or just writing off the one you have and getting another UP U36B, if that is what you desire. I saw several on EBay.

BTW, this site is a good resource on Bachmann trains.

Six years old.

This might be a parts blow up of your loco.

http://www.bachmanntrains.com/home-usa/dwg/dwgs/11702.pdf

As to the E-Bay part number, who knows. It could be anything from a mistake to a dealers
stock code.

I have two suggestions. Post to "The Bach-Man" and ask what coupler now available is compatible with the #7800 shown on the parts diagram.   When The Bach-Man sees your request he will respond. Just put on a new post  Attention: The Bach-Man.

Or, call Bachmann's Parts Department for the same information.

Good Luck

I think you may need to provide more information.
I can find no reference in the Bachmann site to either of the coupler part numbers that you provided.
Nor can I find a Bachmann train set "Holiday Classic Santa Fe Flyer".

I even tried a few of the largest internet dealers and didn't find either of the mentioned couplers, or the train set you named.

In addition to the sets already mentioned, there is also a Steam Digital Commander set and three Dynamis sets that come with DCC and sound already installed.

I guess for what I need, I could get the Dynamis Dcc controller.

I have a Dynamis and am very happy with it.  I especially like the display as it shows all your locomotives, so it is very easy to

operate multiple trains.

The only downside is that the basic Dynamis will not read CVs.

This has not been a problem for me as I have a friend who has a unit that reads and writes CVs.

That should be OK for the gears. For axles and wheel bearings use a very light oil, very sparingly.
Your local hobby shop should have one.

Have you broken it in yet?
If not  try this

Run the locomotive in both directions at various speeds. Forward and reverse and clockwise and counter-clockwise. The purpose is to seat all the moving parts.  I  run mine for 30-45 minutes this way. Also, make sure any parts requiring lubrication are lubed. They can "dry out" sitting on the stockroom or store shelf.

Mine runs fine. That is the largest I have. I'm sorry but I think you may be mistaken.

You have me curious. If the largest radius you have is 22",  how do you know if they run better on 26" or not?

A little light oiling of the valve gears seems to have cured the tick... however the grinding in the curves still exist and I would really like to solve that problem , contact lube was no help...minimum suggested radius is 22" and that's what I'm running it on...on another note the sound works great but is a little loud...anyway to turn it down???

I have three Bachmann 2-10-2 locomotives. The will run on the 22" circuits, but not well.

The do much better on my 26" track.

If you have the space, why not do what I did. I have two totally separate layouts on the same table.

One DC(mine is a DC EZ Command) only and one DCC (mine is a Dynamis) only.

Works fine. I've had it set up this way for nearly two years and had no problems. Just make sure that you can't get a derail that shorts across both sets of track. And hopefully have enough presence of mind  not to mix up your locomotives. >gr<

New to the model train world after 30 yrs. Thank heaven for sons !! Will the DCC controller operate turnouts/switches for track changes? Are the easy to use?

The simple answer is Yes to both questions.
It will operate DCC Turnouts.

However the programing instructions that were shipped with the DCC Turnouts were not all that great.
The Bach-Man had posted a very understandable procedure on this board.
I kept a copy, but can't it's at our other home.
Possibly someone else has it or can direct you to it, or The Bach-Man can re-post it.
Once you understand the programing procedure, they work great within the limits of the total number of DCC Turnouts the EZ Command can control.
