The Missouri Pacific also had some 44-tonners...

Shouldn't be too hard for me to paint though.... :)

HO / Re: Need help identifying locomotives

Thank you Jay. They're all steam locomotives and I don't remember for sure, but I'm guessing they were bought 15, maybe 20, years ago at most. I'm actually making some progress on this. It suddenly occurred to me that the number on the side of the locomotive might not just be there for the fun of it (duh). So far, I've used the numbers to locate 3 Bachmanns and I've discovered that 2 of the others are not Bachmann. The Bachmanns so far are:

2-6-0 Mogul & Tender - New York Central 1905
K4 4-6-2 Pacific (Pre-War with Slat Pilot) - Pennsylvania 5475
4-4-0 American & Tender - Union Pacific 119

The colors on the last one do not match the picture on the Bachmann or Walthers sites. Every other detail matches. What might that mean? (It's definitely a Bachmann - it says so on the bottom.)

Thanks again for your response. The reference to Walthers is helpful.

Now, two more to go....

The difference in colors probably just means that it was from a different production run of 4-4-0's than the current generation.

Any word on the two others? A wheel arrangement, roadname, and roadnumber would be helpful....
It would be very useful if you had pictures of them, which you could  upload to hosting sites like www.photobucket.com or www.imageshack.com .

They've made it, it's just pretty popular so it might be a few months until they can catch up with orders.

HO / Fantastic new HO releases
September 22, 2008, 07:25:26 PM
Hey guys,
I know I'm slow.... I haven't been on the forum in a while. But, I need to congratulate Bachmann on their excellent HO releases.

The 45-tonner looks great, and is just ideal for the gravel mine on my layout. The 0-6-0T would have been great too, but it got discontinued.... :(

The ATSF 2-10-4 would be a good kitbashing project to turn into a T&P 2-10-4, too!

General Discussion / Tower 55 Compilation video
July 26, 2008, 03:08:56 PM
Tower 55 in Fort Worth, Texas has 100+ trains daily from five railroads. It has been abandoned since 1994 but has a double-track Union Pacific mainline, a joint BNSF Railway and Fort Worth & Western Yard, an intersecting BNSF mainline, Amtrak Texas Eagle and Heartland Flyer Service, the DFW Trinity Railway Express, and lots more!

We saw numerous UP SD60's, an unpatched ex- Burlington Northern init, a HATX leaser GP40 in a very rare blue n' gray ex- CSX scheme,
a new BNSF 'swoosh' Dash-9, a TRE F59PH, a helper DPU, and even a sandwiched unit in the middle of a train!

Tell me what you think!

Hey Gene: in 1963, the year I finished HS, the minimum wage in NYC was $1.15 an hour. MR was fifty cents and Craftsman was 35 cents. An Athearn 40 foot boxcar kit was $1.29 and little jars of Pactra paint were ten cents each.

I used to stop for pizza once a week and it cost 15 cents a slice. A hot dog and papaya drink were 35 cents from Papaya King and Orange Julius was 25 cents.

The day I  finished college I bought my first HO engine kit - a Penn Line mikado. It was on sale for $29.95. You can still get one close to that price on Ebay.

I once had every issue of MR from 1959 and Craftsman from 1963. I happily gave them away (I didn't have the room to keep them.) I wish I had them now!

More inflation calculations:

Woody's Athearn boxcar would be $8.75 now (which is more than most of us pay for the blue-box kits)

The pactra paints would be 68 cents

The pizza would be $1.02 a slice

Hot dog n' Papaya combo would be $2.37

His Orange Julius would be $1.70

and, his Penn Line Mikado would be $203.23 today.
Interesting!

Let's see - in 1960 35 cents would be worth something like $3.35 or more today.  In perspective, in September 1959 I bought my cadet sword, brand new, for $25.  A new cadet sword today costs something like $350.  In ca 1962, the minimum wage was $0.50 an hour.
Gene

Okay, I know I'm late, but still:

Using the inflation calculator ( http://www.westegg.com/inflation/ ) I calculated that the 35-cent magazine inflates to $2.46 and Gene's cadet sword would cost $177.40 today.

3% is considered maximum.

No one mentioned North America's largest road Canadian National  and its 2nd largest in Canada, the Canadian Pacific.
CN Owns Grand Trunk, Grand Trunk Western, Central Vermont, DW&P, to just mention a few and many I will list to you later. CN is the largest railroad in North America. Hope this helps

CN is bigger than UP? news to me......

General Discussion / Unpatched BNSF Roster?
July 23, 2008, 12:06:42 PM
Does anyone have a link to a roster of unpatched ex- BN and ATSF locomotives in BNSF's roster? I've googled it, but the most modern I've found is one as of 9/ 05, and a lot has changed since then...

Thanks in advance!
