I can't recall if I brought this up or not here already, but I had an op session on my layout and someone asked why Bachmann doesn't make any ET&WNC-lettered cars?
There are four ET&WNC lettered ten-wheelers (11 in black, 12 in green/gold and black, and 14 is green-gold) but not a single car lettered for the same railroad?  ???
Some of the cars aren't translatable to the ET&WNC but some would make good representational cars (for example, the real ET&WNC boxcars were almost 40 feet long). The tank cars, for example, are very close to the ones used to haul gasoline.
I had to buy a lot of decals for my layout, and it would have been great to have had a few RTR cars marked for my favorite RR, especially as so many locos are available with that road name!

I get the impression that the bottom has dropped out of the 0n30 market.
I kind of wonder that, as well.
I've talked to a couple of Bachmann company reps at train shows in the past couple of years and they deny any questions on Bachmann backing out of On30 or seriously downgrading their involvement, yet loco and rolling stock types keep vanishing from shelves and retailer listings.
Heck, I can't even find any high-gons to experiment with for a project I'm pondering, and I used to find them all the time.

I don't think I'd increase resistance within the moving parts to simulate a heavier car. Instead, I'd just add more weight to the car itself, especially as Bachmann On30 cars tend to be pretty light.
Don't forget, even with a fully loaded car, once you get it rolling on level track, a car can actually be pushed by a few people or a forklift.

Micro Engineering track is great looking but it's pretty fragile. I had two turnouts snap on me when putting the blue points in to control them. Real nightmare having to de-solder and replace them.
If I had to do it over, I might have used Peco track.
I had to use two mainline curved turnouts and went with Shinohara as nobody makes curved On30 ones. I didn't do anything to hide the HO ties, so those two spots look a little 'off' where they are...
But either way, better to use purpose-made On30 than spend a lot of time trying to convert HO stuff...

Lawndale had some nice looking stuff, no question.

Somebody give him an Amen, brothers and sister!
Having been to almost every narrow gauge railroad in the US that has been running in my lifetime (yes, even Alaska and Hawaii, I'm only lacking less than half a dozen in the lower 48), I get the appeal of Colorado/New Mexico NG operations. That and they stayed running as-is way later than any other.
But I get SO tired of internet forums and books that proclaim to be about NG is general but stop at anything with "Rio" or "Grande" in their names. There were (and still are) some very interesting NG lines elsewhere!

I searched online and turned up nothing for the company at all, just vendors selling their stuff.
Frankly, I was unimpressed with how fragile their track is, I busted two turnouts simply putting blue point turnout controllers into them when I was completing the track on my layout. They're comically fragile and I'd have gone with Peco if I had it to do again...

Just had track delivered direct by phone order from them 3 weeks ago.  If in doubt, call them and find out.
Tough to do without a phone number

Sorry. I thought the article was by Rich White.
Ah. He did a good job on his, liked the article and his modeling.

P51 - Are you Rich?   Even though it's a small pic, I can still tell what it is. I can look at the photos and see where they relate to the layout as a whole.  Neat job you have done with it.
Unsure of the context for the first question. The answer is either: No, I'm middle class or, No, my name is Lee
As for the shots, thanks. I was reading through the magazine for the first time, sitting in my layout room, when it occurred to me that I'd never seen photos of someone reading a model train magazine about a layout while standing in/adjacent to it. So I went even further with that idea.
This is the first real layout I ever built and the first article I've ever had printed in any model train publication (I've been printed plenty of time in military history magazines over the years, though).
I already have the idea for an article for the 2018 Annual which Chris Lane (the editor) gave the thumbs up for.
I also intend on doing a first-person article on my layout as if in the perspective of someone who'd been there in the 1940s.

I got mine today. When they feature layouts, I wish they would show a track plan or a long shot on all of them so you can get an idea what the whole thing looks like.
I agree that I, too, was wondering what some of them looked like overall. But the track plans are submitted with the articles, so it's up to the writers.
I did one with my layout article, though. They reproduced it very small but you still can get the idea.

I have been told the Annual has been seen on the shelves of Whistle Stop trains in Portland, Oregon.
Many authors have their copies as do most (if not all) pre-orders.
Mine showed up today.
I don't think I've ever seen anyone taking photos of a magazine alongside the real layout, so I figured, why not?

The On30 Annual has been shipped. Just heard from a pal of mine in Florida who got his copy in the mail today.  ;D
Haven't gotten mine yet (I ordered a few extras for obvious reasons, due to my layout article being in it), but I expect it any day now.

Great model work.
At 1:07, it was funny that a gift card for Coke was made into a billboard, as the builder didn't understand what it meant.

Great! Let us know how it looks when you get it.
It arrived yesterday and looks nice. No pictures as it looks exactly the picture in the Bachmann catalog (and I am lazy!!). Included in the box is a
postcard-sized memorial to Lee Ryan. I do like it.

Great.
When I went to the national train show in Portland, I was so hoping Lee Riley would be there so I could personally thank him for pushing On30 and getting the ET&WNC ten-wheelers into production in On30. But sadly, he didn't make that event and passed not long afterward.
I assume they're on the passenger car frames, from the pre-production sample I saw a while back in person...

18 feet would be comically short for a cattle car...  :-\

Just got the proof for my article last night. There were some corrections, but nothing big. I was advised the copy was going to the printer in about a week.
