HO / Re: Bachmann Spectrum Passenger Cars

I hate to say it but the Bachmann Spectrum Passenger Cars(Heavyweights) have been discontinued. They are not listed in the Bachmann price list for 2008.

What! Has this been confirmed? Is Bachmann going to have another passenger line available, such as the later smoothside/corrigated coaches? Note they are still listed on the Product portion of this web page.

Just goes to show you how dirt cheap these locos are to make ......Just send em a new one........cheaper than spending a few hours fixing one.

They probably are destroyed........They may be kept off the streets for fear of them back dooring the new sales market, Or coming in again as a warranty item......(buy a junker send it back in with $25 and save $100 off that new loco price.)

Or they simply see no profit to be had in the basher dept.

Perhaps the company could mark the return engines in such a way as to identifiy it as a reject and only good for parts. Did not AHM sell Riverossi parts in a grab bag years ago?

HO / Spectrum 2-8-0 motor - question for the Bachmann
February 15, 2008, 09:20:22 PM
A question for Mr. B, there is some confusion about which motor is in the Spectrum 2-8-0. The specs on the model page indicate a 5 pole motor yet others are insistant that it is a 3 pole Mabuchi motor and that the reference to the 5 pole is a mistake. Apparently when the Spectrum 2-8-0 first made its debut it had the 3 pole Mabuci motor and that the frame would require modifications to fit the 5 pole motor.

Please advise, thanks

If you drill down on the set it gives you all your answers, yet the cars are lit and there are interiors.

I've driven one of the Berkshires at the club, and I must say it runs far better than I expected. You should be happy with it, It will run a lot better than your lifelike, and may even be comparable to your 2-10-2. You should be happy with it. Also, look into a Lenz or Digitraxx DCC system. Your current EZ command doesn't have enough programming functions such as Braking Delay.

Glad to hear that the Bachmann Berkshire is in the same class as the Proto unit. When you refered to the 2-10-2 are your refering to a Proto or Spectrum unit??

Check it out for yourself. go to the product reference sectio, select heavyweight passenger, scroll to #89340 and press enter. All of the details of this set are then revealed..............

Look around a bit before you ask questions, quite often the answers are there..........

Emmet:
If you don't like Bachmann, then why did you join this board?  With your attitude, your longevity as a member is questionable, and hopefully brief.

It's interesting to note that the only capital letter in your post is  "I".   Perhaps that is your problem.

Ditto

There are more than enough posters as it is who use this board for ranting

its not bad, but people including me who don't have the money for the sound or just don't want it.

drhone. I did answer your question. its enough to make me want to go sound but it'll drive me crazy after a while.

Good to hear, do you know what limitations the Bachmann sound decoder has in relation to the regular sound chip? Also anyone know what limitations the Bachmann DCC decoder? There has been some references to some users taking out the Bachmann decoders and replacing them due to their limitations.

don't tell me Bachmann is pulling an "Athearn" By going all sound on everything new.

Please tell me that the Spectrum sound unit is not getting the same type of negative reviews as Athearns/ MRC sound units?

Still waiting to hear what the users think of the sound chip that Bachmann Spectrums are being equiped with. It is my understanding that they are somewhat limited in their functions. Likewise the DCC chip that is being used in the DCC on board engines -

My Lord Switches Switches
I have not seen one comment from Bachmann about these switches either
I got the same My first Railroad track pack and my trains cant make it twice over a single switch, I have checked to make sure there flat and straight and still the same thing with all 4 switches
More than likely will wind up to be another thing to put up on the shelf along with the 3 crossovers I got that dont work either
I think its a shame that a company can send out products that are just plain junk. A couple of years ago I built a MTH O gauge Layout and never had 1/10 the problems as I do with the HO Stuff
I now have about $300 to $400 worth of Ho stuff sitting on the shelf that will never see my layout including a Spectrum USRA Mountain 4-8-2 with dcc and sound thats doomed to sit in a yard because it can't make twice around a simple loop with out the tender or front trucks derailing
And then every one tells you that you have to try this or that to see if it will work!!!
I Would think after you spend Over $300.00 for an engine it should work and not need to be played with trying to figure out whats wrong, The other day a few friends stopped  ovet to see the trains and I was imbarest
to tell them They couldnt see or hear the steam loco because it wont make it around the track

I am sorry I needed to vent I just left the train room and I get upset with the poor performance of the products made today

Why would you not send  the engine in to be replaced rather than have it sit in a drawer?

Just checked! I see no 30 2-8-2's !

Ads for the Mikes were only up on e-bay  for a short time. Either the ads were pulled or perhaps the vendor received an offer for all of the units.

They were clearly marked as not running, returned merchandise.
