Yes one resistor is a few cents and ordering 1 is a bit difficult.
As a radio ham i have plenty on the shelf.
An alternative is if you have an old radio or amplifier laying around.
The pcb inside has plenty of components.

nice job.
If you want to tone down the LED just use a resistor with a higher risistence.
2k2 red red red or 3k3 orange orange red.

Is it modelling or playing?
For me mostly modelling and sometimes playing with my layout.
It's a relaxing way of thinking what the next project will be......if everything runs smoothly.

When I was very young in the early sixties my parents and I went to Oldenzaal near the German border.
There you could still see German steam locomotives switching cars destined for the Dutch railways.
Those were my first impressions of live steam.
The Dutch railways company already switched to diesel and electricity.
The war had a devastating effect on steam.
Nearly all locomotives, cars and infrastructure had been bombed into oblivion by the allies.

The nearest "preserved"railroad (tramway) is situated near Ouddorp And runs over one of the massive sea defenses between the provinces of Zuid holland and Zeeland.
It is called the RTM (Rotterdamse Tramweg Maatschappij) Rotterdam tramway company.
It used to run from Rotterdam to the Zeeland islands but shutdown in the early sixties.
After been scared away in Hellevoetsluis it was invited to set up camp near Ouddorp.
There you can see original diesel and steam being operated again.

It's not for everyone but last weekend I took a Hawthorn village 2-6-0 apart and milled a piece of the firebox weight to accommodate a small decoder.
I'm fortunate to have a lath/milling machine.
What we say in Holland, good tools is half the work.

Nice Job Terry only you forgot the trucks and wheels.
A bit of rust paint on the trucks and inside the wheels should do the trick.

Maybe ask Bachmann if they still have the original digital copy for the catalogues somewhere?

1/8th Watt.
average current consumption for a LED is about 20 miliAmpere.
calculation; (overall Voltage minus voltage LED)  devided by 0.02 Ampere gives resistance in Ohm.
Red = 1.9V
Green = 2.1V
Blue = 3.6V

The preresitored LED's you ordered will be very bright.
They will use the correct value resistance required for those LED's, ranging from 470 to 680 Ohms.
I use 1000 Ohm to dim the brightness.

Did cupola windows open? Slide open or flip up or out? I wanted him leaning out the window.
It's you railroad so windows will open.
It's as simple as that ;D

Do LED's flicker?
Yes , but you won't see that.
If your DCC is 15 KHz your LED will flicker at 7.5KHZ.
We humans can't even see 24Hz.  Movies.

Why not using a 5mm LED with a 1000 (1K) Ohm resistor.
Not a white one but a yellow or warm white version.
Make a bracket with a 5mm hole and glue the LED in place.
Will last a lifetime.
