Sorry but this is one of the few locomotives that I would NOT buy from Bachmann.

Verry nice. ;)

I take it that it based off the C&O?

Grandt Line offers a C&S style 4-wheel short caboose kit in O that would be realtively easy to modify to On30.  Check their web page, there are pictures of it up and you can buy a lot of the parts seperately, I've been using them on some SP/C&C and D&RGW scratchbuilds.
Thanks, I already knew that but I'm not verry good at putting kits together so I was really hoping for something that was ready to run.

Please do it! If you do PLEASE offer it with a short tender like most of the C&S locomotives had.

I would like that verry much. However I doubt that they will  since MMI is making one.

Could you please tell what is the hardware differences, between a Spectrum locomotive and a DCC ready Spectrum locomotive is?  I want all my locomotives to run on DCC.  I purchased a Spectrum 2-6-0 Bumble Bee non DCC and a 2-8-0 with DCC on Ebay.  Lastly, does DCC put a constant voltage on the track, regardless of the throttle setting, for lighting? Thanks in advace for all of your help.

DCC equiped locomotives have a decoder already installed. DCC ready locomotives are not DCC equiped but you can just buy a decoder and plug it in.

Your 2-6-0 is not DCC ready or DCC equiped. I don't know your wiring skills but it does take some work. You can see step by step instructions on this website. http://www.pacificcoastairlinerr.com/mogul_page/

Suggest you look at the most recent Kalmbach Great Model Railroads annual magazine, it should still be out on better-stocked magazine racks or in hobby shops.

Has features on two different On3 layouts of Colorado prototypes, both well done, and neither with huge numbers of locomotives.

Thanks I got it when it first came out and I have really enjoyed it.

Try the book 101 Track Plans

also the Model Railroader special issue 102 track plans(patterened after the book above) has lots of good track plans in it.

It is simulated coal. You can put it on the coal load or around the tender deck. If you do make shure to glue it down though so that it dosen't get into the gears.

HO / unlettered 4-4-0 headlight
January 10, 2009, 02:32:36 PM
Does the sound equiped painted unlettered 4-4-0 with steal cab have a center headlight? In the pictures it has the headlight on top of the smoke-box but I want to get one with the center headlight.

Thanks, Ryan

there are plenty more contributers to Colorodo narrow gauge other than Bachmann. The 2-6-0, is based off of a C&S 2-6-0, just would have to find a bear trap stack, most of the rolling stock is based off of colorodo stuff as well. If Bachmann was not to make any Colorodo NG this go around, don't leave On30 over that reason. You could go to MMI, and get some of the D&RGW models. I know I have heard that the quality of the sound in the models are crap, but you could replace the sound.

 Take care
Dusten
The other companies are

Accucraft They make great locomotives but not many. The D&RGW diesel switcher is great but it dosen't help much to have a switcher but no road engine. Their C-16 looks like it will be great but it won't be avalible untill December of 2010! Their freight cars are great but if their is nothing to pull them then they aren't much good.

MMI Pretty good locomotives but they cost a lot. I could get over this and just have a smaller roster but the radius they need is huge. I was thinking of getting their new 4-4-0 but it needs 24" curves. I may be able to get this radius of curve but I'm not shure yet and I don't want to spend $400+ on a locomotive that I can't use.

As for Bachmann they have the 2-6-0. The problem with it is that the only locomotive that it is athoutentic for is Colorado & Southern #22. It would need major surgery to represent any other locomotives that the C&S had.
The railtruck is great but again you can't do much with one railtruck.
The rolling stock is not based on Colorado proto types(although the passenger cars are pretty close). Most of the freight cars are based on Ohio River Western proto-types. I don't really have a problem with this since they look okay with the Colorado locomotives, but a layout with one steam locomotive one railtruck and a couple freight cars is not verry exciting.

To top this off just because it's a Colorado locomotive dosen't mean that it ran together. For example the 2-6-0 and railtruck ran many miles away from eachother.

I wasn't pushing for Bachmann to make new Colorado locomotives but I was just wondering when the next announcements are going to be.

I would not normally leave ON30 over something like this but I am going to be able to start my layout soon and I don't want to start a layout without knowing if I'm ever going to have any-thing to run on it.

Thanks,
Ryan
