rich-

I noticed the On3 2-4-4-2 creeper, too. I'd definitely have to get one if I were doing On3. As it is, I have a Powerhouse hybrid brass and diecast one in HO. It's a terrific little engine and it runs like a top. Of course, it has good genes being from Oriental Limited. It always strikes me as an audacious little buzzard. I mean, what's the point of articulating an eight-drivered locomotive? Well, clearance and tight curves, of course, but it just seems so improbable. It is a lot of fun to watch.

The Baldwin 2-4-4-2 is a little gem of an engine. Especially since it is based on a real engine.

Now that would be a model for Bachmann to produce. A mallet for everyone. If that was done in the Spectrum line I am sure it would be a winner.
If you follow the HO brass market, when these engines come up for sale they sell for top dollar.

HO / Bachmann Plus Coal Tower
August 18, 2012, 07:19:38 PM
Recently I came across a Bachmann Plus Coal Tower.

I was very surprised with the amount of detail contained in this plastic kit.

In addition to the coal tower, there is a sand building complete with dispensing container and the big surprise there is a coal bin which goes under one of the sets of tracks. This comes complete with a bucket feeding the tower. Certainly adds a nice detail touch.

Too bad this tower is no longer in production, I would love to obtain another for the opposite rail yard on my layout. Having an exact duplicate would give it that standard railroad look that came with the standard design of a railroad's buildings.

Have you checked the Bachmann China site. They are still made, just no longer brought in by Bachmann USA, you can order through the Bachmann China site

Good to see steam fans alive and well :) I'm getting really pumped up for the unveiling of the NMRA con's new product announcements. It's always a drum roll, who knows what new steam will roll out now, hopefully there will be a new steam loco coming out. Bachmann's release of the mogul and the EM-1 although really good product development and taking things a step further with a behemoth like the Em-1 being the biggest engine in HO bachmann to my knowledge has produced it has left a western modeler such as myself wondering what's the next jewel they have planned for us?

I'll be honest a harriman/western style mikado or pacific seems to be the biggest unfilled gap just waiting to be filled with all the USRA out there.

We haven't seen a heavy switcher from bachmann yet either or a heisler in HO and yes sign me up for a 2-truck one.

They may be as bold as to offer a standard gauge DRGW articulated, but that's just me crossing my fingers. Blackstone might do it first if they do it.

I would like to see Bachmann release something in the Harriman series. a new Pacific would be great, then they could follow with a number of other steamers, a Mike, a Consolidation, a Ten Wheeler, A Mogul and an Atlantic. Would give a family of steamers to choose from for Union Pacific, Southern Pacific and Illinois Central fans.

I, too, would like the see a three truck Heisler in HO (or two truck for that matter...hopefully better and lower cost than Rivarossi's), but am still holding out for that model of Western Maryland Big Six Shay that I mentioned last year.  I would also like to see a Pacific Coast Shay and/or a 2 truck Shay as well.

As far as rolling stock, Camp Cars would be a nice addition!   :)

Were you the one who was quoting a reliable source last year?
I think a Heisler would be a good guess.

I have added DCC to a number of Spectrum steamers. When I test the engine with the DCC installed I will sometimes encounter erratic fast movement due to the capacitors, when cut the engine will then run very smoothly.

I now cut the capicitors on all of my locomotives when adding DCC.

HO / 2012 NMRA Show
July 10, 2012, 11:59:50 PM
Well, in just over two weeks we will know Bachmann's plans for next years production.

We were advised some time ago by the Bach Man that is when Bachmann is noted to outline the next years production items.

I hope to see more of the Bachmann steamers become part of the new low cost sound Soundtrax line. I wonder if the Bachmann's Berksire woud be a candidate.

Also, when will the H/w passenger cars be making a comeback?

Do not assume that the 4-6-0s are DCC ready.

I have two of each and neither of them are "DCC Ready".

Are you refering to the Spectrum low driver 53" and high driver 63" 4-6-0's. I have a number of these that I bought when they first came out in the black box.

They were all dcc ready and all I had to do was take out the plug and put in the dcc decoder.

Let us ask the Bachmann, were not all of the Spectrum 4-6-0's dcc ready when they first came out?

Perhaps you are correct, they may in fact be DCC ready but as I've never unpacked them and there's no indication on the boxes that they are indeed "DCC Ready" then when I do come to open them I may be in for a pleasant surprise.  :)

You are right that there is nothing on the black box indicating that they are DCC ready. However, when you open the tender you will find the Bachmann electrical curcuit box with the 8 pin decoder with the dummy pin in it.

These engines were never offered in a DCC on board version, just dcc ready or with the sound installed.

This ten wheeler is the 53" driver model.  I will probably go inside of the tender this weekend to see if all I have to do is puul the plug and pop in the DCC decoder.  Thanx to everyone for your help.

I have a couple of these. I bought one with the Soundtrax installed, when it came I checked out how the decoder and speaker were mounted. Soundtraxx makes a baffle just for this engine. It is not a hard install.

These ten wheelers are the base engines for my layout. Fantantastic little engines.

From the photo I saw it's a manual turnout

Kevin

What picture are you referring to?

Bachmann does not list any n/s manual switches, however the steel expansion pack does list a left and right hand manual switches.

Good point about specialty locomotives.  For we B&O fans, we got lucky... lucky perhaps because the EM1 appeals others besides Beano lovers.  There are a bunch (I mean a big bunch) of folks out there who collect only articulated locomotives.  Thus, we got a loco that used to be a brass-only product.  I am grateful for that.  Plus, what a feather-in-the-cap for the Bachmann folks who put out a great running, great looking, and good sounding locomotive, at a more-than-reasonable price point.

If there are any new locomotives announced at all this year, I am coming around to the realization that almost every locomotive put out by the USRA has been done by Bachmann and/or others.  I say 'almost' because we haven't seen a USRA Pacific, yet.  Oh sure, there have been Pennsy, B&O, etc 4-6-2s made by a number of companies. But a USRA version would be nice because it could be easily modified to any number of specific railroads to ended up with the USRA Pacific. At least, I can't think of a USRA version in recent memory. Just a thought.

Another thought: steam fans got a lot to be happy about last year.  Perhaps the modern diesel era folks will get something new.

Isn't anticipation wonderful?

Regards,

Jonathan

Are you aware that BLI will be doing a USRA light pacific soon.

BLI should do very well with this offering, late as it is as no one else was interested. I was sure that MTH would be doing one and had they I would have been very disappointed, and of course would not buy any.

HO / Bachmann Annoucements for new locomoitives
May 29, 2012, 06:33:31 PM
Some time back there was a posting where the Bachmann indicated that July was when Bachmann made their announcements of what new items that would be producing. When in July?
