HO / Re: ho trains out side
March 12, 2015, 07:44:46 PM

Using PECO track should not be a problem as the ties are UV resistant. rail cleaning will be necessary and likely power to each section of track. An article in the Feb 2012 Continental
Modeller mag featured a 15 year old HO outdoor layout which operates 80 to 100+ car trains.

Large / Re: Large scale loco that was rejected

       Although only 7 Vulcans were built covering 3Ft. 3Ft 6In, 4Ft & 4Ft 8&1/2 all 0-4-4-0T, some
   of  the, quotations for engines ranged from 0-4-4-0T (60cm & 4FT 8&1/2In) 0-6-6-0T (2Ft 6In
& 1meter) 2-6-6-2T (4Ft 8&1/2In). Certainly enough leeway to build a might of been Vulcan
locomotive. I can almost see Mr Spock as the engineer <BG>.

On30 / Re: ON30 passenger car couplers
January 10, 2015, 12:16:42 PM

Also check the couplers themselves, early Bachmann couplers had a plastic tension tang, which tends to break off, losing tension on the coupler
Later couplers have a metal spring similar to Kadee. I pitch the all plastic couplers and replace with the new style or Kadee's, rather then have            them     fail when running.

Slimrails@binternet.com   has kits for both the 2-6-2 and the 4-6-0  in either
1/43 or 1/48 not sure likly 1/43 scale. The 2-6-2 uses the Bachmann HO 2-6-2 drive.

  Canpac

You will need to remove the roof to access the screws which hold the trucks in place. I am working on a conversion still needing a few more details before painting.

On30 / Re: C&S 2-6-0 to 2-8-0!
November 04, 2013, 07:40:00 PM

I picked up a Bachmann 2-8-0 this morning  for the conversion, took about 15 minutes to mount
          2-6-0 body onto 2-8-0 chassis.
\
shoehorned 2-8-0 weight into 2-6-0 boiler.
Cut 1/4+ inches off rear of weight.
Cut support off front of 2-6-0  (steam chest)
     Reassembled
Will need wider Pilot deck and rewire for DCC tender

Looks all right next to my OF 2-8-0s

Are there any books that were written about Canadian narrow gauge railroads?
Other than the Klasco & Slocan(I have that)

I once saw a photo of a narrow gauge mallet with a Rotary snow plow built over it(self powered plow) that ran in that country,I sure wished I knew where that photo was as it begs to be modeled..
