HO / Re: DC on Dynamis
April 20, 2009, 10:52:28 AM

E-Z Command and Dynamis are entirely different.   E-Z Command (the original basic system) is a Bachmann US product while Dynamis was conceived and marketed by Bachmann UK (Euro?) later.
Bachmann US has put them together under the E-Z Command 'header' for some reason known only to them. " E-Z Command" and "Dynamis" are separately registered Tradenames.

. Note also that the Uintah locos were huge compared to the B'mann 2-6-6-2.
K

    Kevin,

Have a drawing of Uintah artic. #51, which gives total length of 46' 10",10' 7"wide across side tanks and 13' 8 1/2"to top of stack; so if Bruce has figured correctly the Bach version would  in fact be slightly longer.

When the question was original asked no-one, including the Bach Man, had an answer. The thread just died.

On30 / Re: Increasing prices?
April 11, 2009, 06:55:41 AM

One of the main UK suppliers has announced a 26% increase in prices of Bach On30. Probably mainly due to devaluation of the Pound against the Dollar.

The recently released Peco On30 TT is their long existing HO/OO TT with an altered (wider) deck on the bridge. Both use same pit and 12" long bridge.

General Discussion / Re: NEW MEMBER NEED DCC HELP
April 05, 2009, 10:29:54 AM

   fieromike,

The NMRA issue standards and the manufacturers implement them as they see fit. DCC is expanding ; once it was a question of hardwiring a decoder, then along came the (NMRA) 8 pin socket. Now there are 6pin,8pin,21pin and probably others - plus sound, decoder driven uncoupling, wireless hand controllers,2 way data flow and heaven knows what else.
Like you, I prefer DCC and use as much of the facilities as I want for each loco. Remember the original slogan--"you drive the loco not the track",but now you can control the track as well with decoder controlled "accessories" and computer driven programs. The choice is yours.

     Pete,

Obs car has different seating---3 seat unit on each side facing each other at 'rear' end.

On30 / Re: Bachmann Shorties
March 18, 2009, 08:38:50 AM

I found some Bach gons at a good price.  Stripped off boards ready for conversions--so far have done a shorty flat and a shorty 3 plank gon.  With some of the redundant side and end boards I have built a small coaling stage.

Now I needed some shorty passenger cars so I started with 2 combines. From the center I removed a window and equal width of planking(from baggage portion). For something different I rejoined the 2 baggage ends together to get a 4 door baggage car. The 2 pass.ends were now rejoined for a passenger car. This gives a car with a WC at each end but also 2 stoves, so i removed 1 stove and stack and replaced it with a dropdown seat and flap table for the conductor.

Pic shows comparison with standard combine---still need some tissue on tops to hide joins. Have also done a straight 'chop' on another combine.

If you need a bigger 'small' loco than a Porter, try a Backwoods Miniatures conversion kit for a Bach HO 0-6-0T. Photo shows one with a Porter.

Hope this encourages some of you to have a BASH.

The second link from WGL gives you "Movin On" then in the "related videos" panel at right gives you "Chattanooga Choo Choo".
Third link gives "Wreck of the Old 97" and related vids gives you "Wabash Cannonball".

On30 / Re: E-Z track and On30
March 10, 2009, 11:39:01 AM

   Joe,

The tie strip and ballast base of EZ track are only "spotted" together and are easily seperated.  Have done so to every section of track provided with an On30 Train Set.
Hold a section by the ends and twist in opposite directions a few times. You will hear the "joins" breaking loose but may need to insert a small blade screwdriver between track and base towards centre of piece to complete seperation. After the first 2 or 3, you get the "knack".

A Class A Climax would also be neat, and of course the engineering on the trucks is already done..

Given the number of broken gears that are being reported, even on new out of box locos, it seems that the "engineering" needs a rethink.

   Bob,

Which version of Wabash Cannonball would you use ?  I have the one by Kay Starr on a 78.

    K,

Would use the Commander to set route and Walkaround to control loco.
