I'd like to see a 2-4-4-2 logging Mallet.

I would second this request.  Fine running mates for the Climax and Shay engines.

Note how fast the recent Mantua Classic 2-6-6-2's sold out, orders now being taken for the next production run.

I have a couple of these units and would recommend them highly.

I run one on a DC track and the other on DCC.  Both engines run well, each unit automatically detects what the power source is and responds accordingly.

Regarding the DCC unit,  the low speed control is acceptable to me. However the DCC unit is indeed limited in programing capabilities.

As an alternative for this era I suggest you also look at the Spectrum 4-6-0's (either the low or high  boiler versions)  these are DCC ready so will need a DCC unit added. They do however have full working valve gear which adds to watching them run.

HO / Spectrum Smooth-side Coaches
March 24, 2008, 06:29:17 PM
Mr. Bach Man

As mentioned in this forum the Spectrum Heavyweight coaches are not in the current catalogue.

I am wondering about the possible availability of the newer smooth side corrugated steel coaches.

Will Bachmann consider releasing smooth side coaches in the near future?

The layout is pictured above and has several reverse loops. SHORT CITY :o

That is what I had thought when baysshack posted the track parts. seeing there were crossovers and swithches it seemed the logical problem. Also the lack of reference to isolating any sections.

I just finished creating a train layout modeled after the  Atlas - Transbay Interwoven.  I cannot get the engine to run at all on the track. The headlights on the engine work but that is all. I have checked all connections and tryed 3 different engines. Does any one have any suggestions.

Did you ever get your layout running? What was the problem?

OK Gene, then why did the headlight work on the DC track? Surely it was DAYLIGHT!!! There has to b e a problem somewhere, my guess is the DCC programming, but who knows?

I have another Spectrum 4-4-0 and the headlight works on both DCC and DC .I assume the problem is  that a CV settings is messed up.  I am unable to read/program at present.  Will upgrade my DCC unit later and hopefully will be able to fix the problem.

Hi everyone

My sole purpose of joining this board (not only to hopefully learn more things about RRing) was to gain more information on a Bachmann product.

I am interested in a Spectrum Steam Locomotive, Norfolk and Western J #611.  I am looking to see if 1)is there one that comes sound equipped and 2) does any of those locomotives have flywheels attached to the motors.

I have looked at the product descriptions and can not seem to find an answer.

I am looking at HO scale (if not previously mentioned) one that is DCC equipped.  Here is the link for what I believe is it:

  http://www.bachmanntrains.com/home-usa/products/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=133http://[/img]]

Thank you.

There is a J which has sound installed available as well

http://www.bachmanntrains.com/home-usa/products/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=1888

I notice that the Spectrum 2-8-0 which has DCC installed and 2-10-0 which is DCC ready are indicated as flywheel equipped. The other Spectrum steam engines are not noted as having a flywheel.

The Bach Man would be the best source of information on your request for information.

HO / Re: Large Boilered Consolidation
March 19, 2008, 08:56:58 PM
When I first unpacked my old model railroad equipment a couple of years ago I noticed I had one of the old Bachmann Reading 2-8-0's.

I remember that I had run it  a couple of times but was not impressed with it.  It was my one and only steam engine with smoke.  I tried in on a test track and nada, no lights, no hum, nothing at all.

I repacked it with a number of other old items that I thought I would never use. I had thought that I might one day send it and a money order to Bachmann and see what is offered as a replacement seeing it is no longer in producation.

Perhaps obtaining a NWSL drive is something I should explore.

It's a 4-4-0.  It's headlight is not supposed to turn on in daylight.
Gene

Well, I guess I will follow that rule then

I recently tested a new Spectrum 4-4-0, I first tested the engine on a DC oval  track during the initial break in period.

Later I tried the engine on a DCC track and the engine started up and ran fine, however the engine headlight does not come on. I immediately thought that it had been turned off and only needed to be turned on. No response. I tried another DCC engine and had no problem turning the headlight on and off.

So, the 4-4-0 headlight will not turn on when run on DCC, but will turn on when on the DC track.

Any ideas?

No ideas from anyone?

Check the NMRA site for your basic wiring overview.

http://www.nmra.org/beginner/wiring.html

I assume your layout is DC and not DCC is that correct?

This is a good overview showing the use of isolators needed to shut off track sections or in the case of a reverse loop having to change the direction of the current.

With 10 switches and two cross overs I wonder if there is a reverse loop anywhere on the layout?.

Makes it hard to speculate without a diagram of the plan.

What brand of track and switches are you using?

In the last few days the board has been hit and miss.

At times I can access the main site but not drill down, it just hangs up.

I checked the Atlas site to see what the layout was based on, amd there is no diagram showing the layout.

However, there is a parts list. There are a 10 switches and two crossings required for the layout.

I would suspect a short somewhere. Also helpful would be the information on your power pack.
