USRA Pacific and/or USRA 2-8-2

Unfortunately, my request for the 4-6-2 will be too late as Athearn (Roundhouse) will be releasing the updated old Genesis 4-6-2 soon.

If the drivetrain has been updated as indicated on the site then I think this engine will be a big seller.

Both of the old Genesis 2-8-2 and 4-6-2 engines were extremely good looking engines.

If Athearn is re-releasing the 4-6-2 do you not think the 2-8-2 is not far behind?

I will most likely purchase a few of these if they are decent running locomotives.

Just for general scale of things:

2500' runway in N scale is 15' 7 1/2" long (a tiny airport)
5000':      31' 3" (a medium like runway)
12,000':   75'     (a regular runway for the big planes)

Can not even think about this on most layouts. Who has the room to accomodate such a module?

My Spectrum Consolidations totally outpull my Athearn Mikados.
Gene

Same here,  I am told adding weight to the Athearn will make a big difference in their pulling power. But then again you could add weight to the Spectrum as well.

Here in Canada we often have the same kind of problem - US shippers wanting $25 for shipping an item in a standard envelope.  If asked, they explain that the extra charge is for something called "handling."  I figure it this way - $1 for a stamped envelope.  $23 to write my name and address on the envelope and fill out the little green export tag.  If the seller is a little slow, that might take 5 minutes.  If my math is correct, that is about $288 per hour for monkey work.

I am really surprised by how many USA vendors have increased their S&H charges to what I consider very high amounts.

One the other hand I have contacted several vendors on e-bay who have indicated that the S&H charges shown on the e-bay calculator are in error - and they blame e-bay for the misleading charges-

Alwasy check with the vendor of any item you are interested in on e-bay especially to verify S&H charges.

Britain and America have different sizes in england ho is larger than oo but in America ho is smaller than oo. my friend uses oo locos from england but her track is american ho track. british oo matches up closely to american ho. the only difference is british locos were always small compared to american locos. lionel tried amerian oo for a short period to compete with american flyer but it was short lived due to joshuas hat for small toy trains as he called them, in america oo is now rare, so is tt.

What are you talking about?

The difference is in the scale 1:76 vs 1:87

According to my Bachmann catalogs (2007 and 2008) they don't make a model 82701.  They have an 82711 DCC equipped that lists for $115.

If they earlier made an 82701 that was only DCC ready. then the 32 in stock must be at least 3 years old.  So you have to spend another $20 for a decoder and you still have an older loco.

Well it is obvious that these are older stock, the new stock has been upgraded to include the DCC unit.

With a price of $19.99 certainly worth considering.

I would like to suggest maybe you could come out with a few British Columbia Forest company,s roadnames.  I would like to mention that of the total production of Pacific Coast Shays 24, built by Lima, 17 operated in British Columbia .    thanks

I think that there were quite a few shays used on the Pacific Coast

Note you can check by owners name on this site
http://www.shaylocomotives.com/data/owner/OwnerSearchFrame.htm

Check Bloedel and  Canadian Forest Products and Victoria Lumber.  Even Canadian Pacific Railway had a few.

As there is a 3 truck shay available perhaps a two truck shay could also be released by Bachmann.

Shopping around the various vendors will be well worth your time.

Given what you are looking for will vary in price from dealer to dealer.

rmy problem is  that i don't think they run on 18 inch radius alot of light weight  dont.

I have a few sets of the Bachmann Spectrum Coaches and over the years there appears to have been a few changes regarding the placement of the couplers.

The latest run has the couplers mounted on the body and the coupler boxes also pivot slightly.

I would assume of the various releases this particular setup would handle tighter radius curves than previous releases.

Pacific,

What would you like to see improved? The Bachmann coach is a nice model as is and any change would most likely mean changing tooling for other parts that the coach shares with the other car types in the line - not a likely out come.

Sheldon

New and improved would be an assumption on my part. As these coaches are a few years old I would imagine they could still be improved.

I have a couple of the Spectrum sets which are also illuminated and am quite happy with them. While my mainline is confined to a 22" radius in some places these coaches track well.

Dear PN,
The coaches are out of production pending a new mold; the old one failed last run.
Have fun!
the Bach-man

I assume then that the new models would be new and improved?

Some time back there was an announcement of sorts that the current Spectrum Heavyweight coaches were being phased out.

What will Bachmann be introducing for coaches in the heavyweight series? Are new improved models on the way?

I see in the latest Model Railroader magazine one of the larger model railroad vendors is blowing out sets of the heavy weight coaches sets at a major discount.

I assume with a Bachmann Plus steamer your only option will be to send the engine in with the $15.00 fee along with a note indicating the problem to the service department and hope that they can fix it.
