HO / Re: Nickel Silver vs Steel EZ track

Couple of questions:

1.  Can you mix Nickel-Silver and Steel EZ track in the same layout? Yes

2.  Has anyone noticed an APPRECIABLE difference in performance between Nickel-Silver and Steel EZ track?Yes, Nickle Silver will stay clean for a long time where as Steel needs to be cleaned about every-other day.

3.  Should I worry about using Steel track with a DCC system? No, but it is much more important to keep it clean since you could loose the signal(and control of your locomotive).

General Discussion / MRC?
January 25, 2009, 09:07:48 PM
Hi, everyone. I was just on the MRC website and I noticed that they were not making DCC systems anymore...then I saw the same for decoders and DC power packs. I also looked at their non train items and saw the same thing. Have anyone heard if they are closing?

It can be bought from any MMI dealer, however Southwest Narrow Gauge is a great place to buy from.

A wouldn't be into Civil War erea 4-4-0s but if bachmann made a model of the Virginia & Truckee 4-4-0s I would buy several.

It's $10 to send back a diesel. You can click on the Service Department link on the sidebar for more information.

I would also like to see a double door bagage car like the ones used by the Rio Grande only sized to fit with the existing passenger cars.

How about the  Mikado/McArthur?
One that does not cost $400+.

Diesel
Why not the classic that many got in their very first set,way back when, well for me it was anyways. Yes I'm talking about:

The  F.M. C-Liner!

In ATSF Warbonnet colors of course, and any other roadnames.
not to many out there.
Proto 1000 from Walthers makes one. Trainworld has a verry good price on it too.

Sounds like a good idea, but which would you rather have?  An upgraded 2-6-0, or an entirely new loco?  Even if the 2-6-0 would be inexpensive to retool, it would still take time from the schedule for making the parts and running them through the assembly line.  That time and money could be spent instead on a Heisler, a 2-6-6-2, or whatever else Bachmann has in the works.

Since Bachmann can't seem to make any prototypes that I want I would much rather see a 2-6-0 since I could use several more of these.

I would really like to see a Rio Grande 4-8-2. This would be easy to make since it is basicly just the already produced heavy mountain. It is a lot cheaper to make a new roadname than a new locomotive.

I would also really like to see a Katy 4-6-2. I would have to agree with the writter of The Georgin Locomotive that these have to be one of the best looking locomotives ever made.

I would definitely find room on my layout for a model of the G class Garrett. I live in Aust, but model US Pacific NW logging. I am SURE my prototype used a Garrett.  ;)

It's your railroad but in real life we didn't have any garrets like those in the northwest.

They are both compatible with all cars. The 33" is used in most cases. The 36" are prototypical for larger cars like autoracks.

Kato has a large selection. It is the best operational track that you will ever use. It's only downside is that it is expensive. I have not used EZ track but it dosen't look verry good. If you want to you can still go with flextrack. It is made by Atlas, Micro Enginering, and Peco. Peco and MI are by far the best especaly when it comes to turnouts. However they are a fair amount more expensive than Atlas.
