After a few cans of barqs root beer an hour of pink Floyd and some internet searching on British train life. I can give ya some good written Ideas easy. don't even need the root beer even though it gives me a boost...

(Plain and simple answer: I can write really creative stuff about the railroad world.)

Thanks everyone for the info! Really enjoyed that story that guy wrote about starting up that steamer, found it quite interesting. With me, there's never too much information if its train related.  ;D

Hello, i was on trainorders today and read an article about oil burners, didn't give too much info past efficient (oil burnt per mile). This led me to questioning, what's the difference between Oil burners and coal burners? I know that western railroads favored oil cause it was cheaper out there and that's about it. Also, how do you fire an oil burner? I don't think you can have a oil can and just stick it through a hole or something... Any info would be great!

Thanks!

Henry is based off the black 5 class, which was a 4-6-0 wheel arrangment. There could've been a time where he had a trailing truck and it got removed cause it was considered not needed, but I'm just gonna say it was a simple mistake  ;)

Wow, its been 2 years already? Time really does fly!  ;D

Anyway, thanks for sharing the video. Just to clear up some facts, the place they built the Jet RDC was actually Collinwood Yard in Cleveland Ohio! (Now CSX owned and some modifications have been made over the final years of NYC, all of PC, Conrail and CSX sense they got it to the present time). The clip from the helicopter was probably when the RDC was in tow. From what I read, a geep hauled the RDC backwards to where it would laucnch off again. The stretch of track it ran on was actually the chicago line now owned by NS! No clue where the starting point was but it would have to be west of mile post 194, sense that's where the final curve is going by Berea. Pretty amazing this experiment was pretty much all in ohio, it still amazes me that it even was built in collinwood, now I finally got to see some video of the beuaty. Wish the video had sound, would love to here those 2 jet engines winding!  :D

I don't think they ever came out. I think someone found an ad in a magazine and that's how it all started. I think what happened was they abandoned the project cause hitt entertainment didn't want bachmann. Bachmann is assigned what engines, rolling stock, and everything else in the thomas line from hitt, so its still a mystery, maybe someone else can give you better information.

That'll be an interesting match up if you get it working, an EMD FT-A with alco trucks, who here knows Wheeling and Lake Erie railroad? They actually had GP35s with alco trucks on them, and that was mostly from The Southern Railroad. Besides, it could be a pretty neat kit bash, a short line bought an EMD shell to put on an old Alco FA-2 body and motor.... you see where I'm going with this?  ::)

HO / Re: Track Cleaning Tankers
February 24, 2012, 11:18:37 AM
The CMX tanker does areally good job, but like CNE runner said, its heavy. My bachmann 4-8-4 slips when trying to haul it and can barely haul it up a hill! Now, my solution is a 15 car train, a 4-8-4 and a 2-10-2 to double head, with the tanker in between the locos to look like a water tender, it can keep tracl speed, and you don't have to worry about stalling on the hill. Looks pretty good too, heard the atlas track cleaning car was good too, seen a few for sale for the price of a CMX tanker.

General Discussion / Re: B&O Photos From Toledo
February 21, 2012, 05:05:39 PM
Great finds! Love that 4-6-4 stream liner departing Toledo heading for Cincinnati! I've heard of B&O stream-liners, but have only seen a painting in a book i did for a school project, back in 2009, but never a true "Blue" picture! *sigh* I'm born in a generation where the last big names of class 1s merged to make today's class 1 railroads, Would've been wonderful to experience the B&O, they got some pretty good bridges down here in Cleveland. I Could only imagine a 4-6-0 hauling a local freight over it to do some switching. Oh well, i enjoy that there are pictures at least, and i can just sit back and day dream... no wait, that's what model railroading is for!  ;D
