General Discussion / Need address

Hi all,

I am looking for the current mailing address of a Hobby Shop in Pittsburgh, PA. The name is A. B. Charles & Son. I was told there was an advertisment for this business in the 'Model Railroader' about  a year ago.

If anyone has that information, I sure would appreciate receiving it. (it can be sent to my private eMail address if you wish).

thanks!

Just one more note regarding the 60' UP postal box car that is used as a 'tool car' with the #844 excursion.

I evidently was wrong about Intermountain. I checked them again and this time could not find such a car scheduled for future production.

If anyone happens on an old Ambroid H-5 kit, please let me know by private eMail

thanks!

Woody,

It's not part of the "1 in 5,000" ... there are three or four other series of Ambroid and this kit is in the 'H' series.

richG:

Thanks for the info. I'll keep looking.

I think Intermountain may be coming out with one in November or so. If anyone knows for sure, please let me know.

Hi all,

I am looking for an old craftsman kit made by Ambroid. It is series 'H-5', a Union Pacific Postal Storage Car. If anyone has any information where such a kit still might be found (or a modern equivilant) I sure would appreciate knowng. (I have already tried eBay without success)

Hi Gene,

Thanks for the name ... you mentioned that "I think Johann has mentioned that Mr. Reiley is the Decider at Bachmann".

What is Mr. Reiley's title (in order to proper write a letter and address the envelope? And is it 'Reiley' or 'Rieley' (sp?)

Thanks Gene ... or anyone.

HO / Re: Any rumors of new Bachmann steam?

An honest question.

It seems obvious that far more than those of use who are 'raving ICRR maniacs' would like to see Bachmann develop a Harriman style steam locomotive. I've been amazed at the constant requests for such a locomotive, with virtually everyone that suggests it, also mentioning the added value of 'kit bashing' it into whatever particular RR they would like.

It seems to me to be 'more than obvious' that there is a 'large' market out there for a 'Harriman' style steam locomotive.

So the question is ... do 'we' start 'flooding' Bachmann in Philadelphia with requests rather than (or 'along with') flooding this forum with those requests? I plan to do this. Even thoug postage went up, it would be worth a 'few bucks' to send such a request periodically to Bachmann.

It seems to have some effect in politics ... i.e. 'write your congressman' ... perhaps it would have a similar effect on Bachmann?

Could someone suggest the department or specific name of the individual to whom such communications might be addressed?

Thanks!

Bo,

In the little central Iowa town where #844 stopped, people and kids were all over the tracks. One little guy remarked to me, "If I could pick up all the pennies, nickles, dimes and quarters people put on the tracks, I'd be rich!" :)

For some reason, maybe the slowness of the speed when it pulled into the area crowded with people, there were no restrictions ... but then, small town central Iowa is not downtown Kansas City! Maybe they have to be more careful in large cities.

Thanks Sheldon,

I will call them tomorrow to make sure the UP smooth sides I need are still in stock.

I would perfer Con Cor if I can get them.

thanks again,

Hi Gene,

I have 32"-36" radius curves (one or two places they drop to 30"). However I built them 2" on center so trains run unprototypically close on the curves. I don't think the Walthers 85' cars, though exact scale, will handle a 'meet' on my curves with a train on the other mainline.

I'll check Athearn. They must be 'smooth side' cars.

thanks.

HO / Looking for a specific piece of rolling stock
July 02, 2007, 01:30:50 PM
Hi all,

I got 'bit' by the 'excursion train bug' after seeing #844. Since my dear son is 'financing' a model of the excursion train I am on the lookout for some suitable rolling stock. I have the locomotive (#844)  'on the way'.

I remember building a wood (Ambroid or Quality Craft) model of the UP sixty foot express box car. Any advice on finding this kit or styrene kit/model of that care would be much appreciated.

Also, my double track mainline layout has tracks so close that full 80 ft streamline cars, even on 30" radius curves are too close to each other (poor track planning on my part!). I know Walthers has really nice cars, but I think the smooth side streamliners would be too long for tains to pass on my double track curves.

IHC has 70' foot smooth side models of the UP cars. How close is the 'IHC dome' (especially the 'dome' car), 'coach' and 'baggage'  to the 'real thing'? I have IHC smooth side ICRR Panama limited cars and they are 'acceptable' for my modeling.

And finally, where does one begin to look for the tender with buckeye trucks, painted UP colors, that is coupled behind the big centipede #844 tender? Is such a thing available?

thanks!!

Bo,

The drivers are 80". That means, if my math is correct, a 6' 8" person would be head to head with the top of the drivers.

That was what impressed me when I watched it go by. Those drivers! So huge and turning so effortlessly. Who needs to watch 'ballet' when this lady is performing  :)
