HO / Re: Attaching EZ track
February 26, 2015, 12:16:15 PM
I did a quick search of Lowe's and Home Depot.  Lowe's has 42' rolls of 1.44" wide Shurtape.  That appears to be a good width for making both the Woodland inclines stick to the foam and the EZ Track stick to the inclines.

I agree about the sturdiness.  If I had just built a table for general purposes I would have used 1/2" or maybe a '3/4" (overkill) for the top.

But I followed the WGH Madison Line video for the table plan.  I figured they knew better., and their plan was cheaper to build and lighter to move.

The 1/4' birch top is screwed and glued around the perimeter and 16" on center.  I've braced the legs differently, so there's no wiggle room to speak of, and the table is flat as evidenced by my level.

For what it supports, I see no problem.  My trains run fine.

What a good idea!

Is it available from Home Depot/Lowe's?

How do I get an ANYRAIL layout to fit into this message board?  I've exported it into Word to reduce the size, but it still won't go.  The file is too large.

Thanks for any help.

JJ,

How many feet of track are in your layout?

I've just now seen these comments from Jim and Len.

Thanks to both of you.

I have a good many steps between where I am now and ballasting the EZ Track.

HO / Re: Housing Cover for EZ Mate Coupler

Well said, Hunt.  Thank you. I appreciate your gift.

These are on my to-buy list:
Sheets and strips of plastic and various plastic shapes should be part of your supplies as should hobby knives, drills, files, jeweller's screw drivers, an NMRA standards gauge and coupler height gauge, etc., etc.. just for making these kinds of repairs and fixes..

I agree with Len.
Along with all the other accouterment of this hobby, I would throw in tact as a good tool.

HO / Housing Cover for EZ Mate Coupler
February 25, 2015, 07:14:45 AM
I bought a used Walther boxcar that came without one EZ mate coupler and the housing cover that attaches with a screw.  I have extras couplers, but I don't have an extra cover nor screw.  Walthers doesn't show one on its site, at least not one I can find.

Any suggestions?

You're right.  I was assuming that large scale was referring to an expanded HO layout.  My mistake.  Thanks.

I'll see what happens when a 3rd locomotive comes Friday.

Thanks.

Yes, I have a 1/4" birch plywood top to the table.  The 1" Styrofoam lies on top of the birch.  I have screwed in a perimeter of 3/16" hardboard that frames the table. The hardboard extends up 4 inches above the foam on the back and the left side, but only an inch above the track in other places where the views are more important. This perimeter keeps wayward trains on the board and off the concrete 40" below, and it keeps things in place.

Sorry.  Your're right.

Here's another link to the Dynamis manual:
http://www.bachmanntrains.com/home-usa/ez_content/dynamis_manual.pdf

Here's a quote.

Thank you for your choice of the Bachmann E-Z Command® Dynamis® DCC
model train control system. You have chosen an easy to use yet highly sophisticated
product. Please take a few moments to become familiar with the product by reading
this manual before proceeding. Using the Dynamis DCC system is simple as all
actions are guided by the screen icons with four Action Keys beneath.

The Dynamis DCC system features a powerful bi-directional infrared hands- free
control unit for convenient operation around your layout. Information passes both
ways between Command Station and Handset to ensure communication integrity.
Both units have been designed to have a wide transmission and reception arc for
optimal performance.
Dynamis can be used with model trains of any scale: power hungry Large Scale
trains may require the use of the E-Z Command® 5-amp boo[/font
]

It seems as though the Dynamis, while offering more control options, doesn't solve the power problem.

I may be wrong.

I read the owner feedback about Dynamis on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/NCE-Power-Cab-Starter-NCE5240025/dp/B005M8GRKW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1424813216&sr=8-1&keywords=nce+dcc+controllers#Ask

Users are disappointed that it will run only two locos at the same time.  So it doesn't look as if it solves the power issue.

Just wondering.
