I have received great help from this forum. I am brand new at this train hobby. I successfully added DCC to my DCC ready Bachmann 4-8-2 heavy mt. However, when I turn it on, I get a loud humming noise from the engine. It goes away as it starts to move. I have one other engine that came DCC equipped and it does not make that noise. Any ideas as to the cause or is this normal? Thanks..Jetf14

Having successfully opened the tender of my Bachmann 4-8-2 heavy and am prepared to insert the 8 pin plug. How do you tell which way to plug it in. Should the wires of the plug extend to the center of the tender or to the outside edge?

I am brand new and in the hobby of HO trains. I recently bought a  new old stock Spectrum 4-8-2 Heavy Mountain locomotive. It is my understanding that it is DCC ready. I bought a Bachmann 44915 decoder, which I believe that I am mechanical enough to install once I learn where it goes and how to open the area. Does it go in the tender or the locomotive? If the locomotive, is that dismantled by removing the screws between the driving wheels? Hopefully there is a plug for the eight pin end of the decoder.
