Nearly a month after these pictures were taken I have finally uploaded them from my SD card. These were taken in Martins Ferry, Ohio. The crew was taking the train North after their lunch break which ended at 3.

The men standing there are "guarding" the traffic to keep it back at the Marathon gas station located at Hanover Street in Martins Ferry.

General Discussion / Big Eagle Railroad
December 05, 2009, 02:44:56 PM
I am working on researching all of the rail lines, subdivision..etc of West Virginia. I am currently working on CSX with NS later but I also want some shortlines of WV in my research. I came across the Big Eagle Railroad today and can't find any information on it. All I can find is this:
http://www.gottrains.com/winifrede/index.htm   which came up as a result of a Google search and of course there is Railpictures.net but there aren't that many photos of the RR on there.
Does anyone know anything about this or any websites where I might be able to get some info?
Thanks

HO / DCC Sound
November 20, 2009, 02:24:11 PM
I have two Bachmann HO DCC Equipped EMD SD40-2 locomotives. I am using the EZ- Command system. Is there a sound system that I can put in these two locos without having to do much work with it?

Thanks,
Cody

HO / DCC and DC
November 18, 2009, 10:41:55 PM
It is my understanding that the Bachmann EZ Command can control 9 DCC locos and 1 DC loco, correct? So does that mean that I can operate a DCC loco at the same time I operate a DC loco?

thanks,

General Discussion / Unstoppable
November 16, 2009, 07:12:10 PM
The movie Unstoppable about a runaway train is filming not too far from my home in Martins Ferry, Ohio. It had been filming in Belliare, Ohio which is also close to my home. Being only 13 years old and my brother (who is a railfan) being away at OSU in Columbus I had no way to go see the train. Does anyone know if they are using the train in Martins Ferry and when filming will end in Ferry?

Thanks,
Cody

HO / DCC
November 10, 2009, 01:55:11 PM
I am planning on upgrading to DCC using Bachmann EZ-Command (I think that is what it's called) But I know nothing about DCC. Does anyone know of any web sites or books that I might be able to find? Or any info on here would be helpful.

thanks,
Cody

General Discussion / My Railfanning trip to Cumberland
November 02, 2009, 04:26:41 PM
Well when I arrived at Cumberland with my mom (who isn't a railfan... yeah I know she's a weirdo  ;D). We set up at Franklin Street to wait for the EB Capitol Limited. While we were waiting we saw an EB CSX Manifest. When the Cap finally came we rushed over to Mexico Tower to catch it again, but we got lost. So, I called my brother and told him to go to Google Maps to get us there. At Mexico we saw a CSX 156 on the rear of an empty coal drag. I got a couple shots of the CPL's and Mexico Tower before the train came. I also used those two things to frame my photo with the Cap Limited.
On our way back towards the Engine Shops I made a quick decision to go on a hill and photograph the hump. We then headed to the shops were I saw a ConRail and many, many CSX locos including CSX #1 The Spirit of West Virginia. I headed on to the dead line which had two ex-Seaboard B36-7s. One without CSX Markings on the conductor side, I don't know about the engineer side though.
We then left for the trip on the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad led by a 1916 2-8-0 Consolidation locomotive built by Baldwin. About 3-4 miles into the trip we stopped to dump the ashes. We were stopped for 45 minutes which at that time I knew something was wrong. We got started going again and stopped near (what I think is) Sunnyside. But we got started again in about 30 minutes. About 1/4 mile from Frostburg we stopped again where the grade steepens to about 2.8%. We couldn't get going so we had to wait an hour for a GP30 #501 to come from Cumberland. At about 3:20 (20 minutes after we were supposed to be in Cumberland) the GP30 coupled onto us and shoved us into Frostburg. At 3:30 we were off the train and the train was leaving at 4:00. We saw 734 turn on the turntable (which was pointless because it had a pusher and they turned it completely around). Anyway, we were back in Cumberland at 5:00. What was supposed to be an hour trip to Frostburg took 4 hours and what was supposed to be 1.5 hours in Frostburg turned into 35 minutes.
All-in-all I had a great time.

Cody

PS- I will post pics later after I edit them

General Discussion / Cumberland Railfanning-- Again
October 25, 2009, 09:26:09 PM
Sorry, but I'm going to Cumberland on the 1st (next Sunday) and I am planning on catching the EB Capitol Limited. I have decided to catch it coming through the Cumberland Narrows and race ahead and catch it at Mexico. Where might some spots be at the narrows where it will be able to see/photograph the Limited?

Thanks,
Cody

General Discussion / Cumberland Railfanning
October 20, 2009, 04:06:25 PM
Hey,
I am planning on taking a railfanning trip to Cumberland, Maryland on November 1. One of the trip highlights is catching the Eastbound AMTK Capitol Limited at the CSX Mexico Tower which is at the end of the CSX Cumberland Terminal. The train is scheduled to arrive at the station in downtown at 9:29am and depart at 9:36am. Does anyone happen to know what time the train will be rolling through Mexico Tower? Also, the night between Oct 31 and Nov 1 the time changes so where will the train make up for lost time? Will it be an hour earlier?

Thanks for your information,
Cody

HO / New Locomotives
October 08, 2009, 06:42:26 PM
When will the pictures become available of the new HO DC SD40-2s? Also, the Wheeling & Lake Erie one, #7375, it was once leased by GATX and is still in the GATX blue paint scheme... why would Bachmann make a model not accurately showing WLE's locomotives? I think that is just stupid... I was thinking about buying one but not now.

HO / Bridges
October 07, 2009, 05:09:10 PM
I'm using Bachmann Nickel Silver EZ-Track for my new layout and I need the tracks to cross a river. Since Bachmann track has a roadbed and bridges don't have a roadbed what do I do to make up the difference between the height of the non-roadbed track and the Bachmann track? Also, what would be the best non-roadbed track to use and the best bridge design? The layout will be set in 1997 but the tracks and town will be from the 1950s in case that helps for the bridge design.

Thanks,
cody

HO / Yard Design
September 06, 2009, 06:45:30 PM
I am working on designing my HO scale yard. I will be using Bachmann EZ- Track with the following pieces of track:
9 inch Straight
3 inch Straight
18 in Radius curve and
http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/bac/bac44131.htm <I'm not sure how to describe that....

Here is a color-coded idea of my yard... It was scanned so it  might not all be readable so If you have any ideas on improvemments or changes that need to be made please tell me.

http://s277.photobucket.com/albums/kk49/trainsrock96/?action=view&current=yardmap1.jpg

I just realized that the words weren't very readable so here they are:
Blue- Main line
Red- Classification Yard
Orange- Locomotive Track
Light Green- Caboose/MOW
Yellow- Logging Operation (Non Relevant)
Dark Green- Departure Tracks

HO / Ditch Lights
September 05, 2009, 04:00:36 PM
Does anyone know anything about fake ditch lights or even if they are made? I want the appearance of ditch lights on my DC locomotives but I don't want to go through the wiring to get working ditch lights.

HO / accessories
September 03, 2009, 05:32:20 PM
I am in the planning stage of a new BNSF 9X5 layout with alot of switching opportunites with of course leads to switches! My layout is DC powered and I will have one train on the outside oval and one doing the switching. For accessories I will use Bachmann electronic switches and some floodlights for the yard and so on and I will most likely see the need for more accessories in the future. Is there any sort of accessory power boost or something along that line for my layout?

HO / Un-coupling device
August 20, 2009, 01:52:00 PM
How does the EZ Uncoupling magnet with Brakeman work? Does it work well? Is there any other ways that I can uncouple cars without lifting them off of the track?

HO / Thoroughbred Train Set
August 18, 2009, 06:19:03 PM
The locomotive in the Bachmann HO Thoroughbred train set http://www.bachmanntrains.com/home-usa/products.php?act=viewProd&productId=3090   Why is it only available in the train set? I would seriously consider buying it if it were made. If it were made by another company, the name of the manufacturer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
cody
